What made Malzahn so much better other that they had 400 more yards and 46 more points. Was it the blocking schemes, misdirection or did Tubbs put hand cuffs on Franklin last year?

1) Malzhan embraces the run more, which fits with Auburn's personnel and style more.
2) Malzhan hasn't pissed off the rest of the staff and turned them against him.

Franklin has Tubberville telling him what he could do and was stuck with Tubberville's long time assistants who probably didn't know the system.

they didnt give him any chance and the only reason the others were pissed off is because an outsider was brought in, and they never were a team and that is tubbys fault. Tubby f'd that up. He should have never brought him in but he was desperate...franklin never had a chance.

i would think the jury is still out. it'll be interesting to see how auburn does down the stretch - they will likely be underdogs in 4 of their last 5 (at LSU, UM, furman, at UGa, Bama).

I heard an interview with Franklin this spring. He said that from the get go he was not embraced because he did not adopt the culture and the main problem was prayer meetings. He did not feel that it was mandatory. This could go either way, but it should have been decided before the hire what you expect of a coach. On the Malzahn point he like Franklin did not get to run his offense at Arkansas. I like many thought that he was overated. There is one way to look at it. Either he is great or we suck.

by an Ole Miss poster and some of our own guys. But I`ll give it one more try. I have not followed his career and didn`t realize he was Mitch Mustain`s highschool coach etc etc. This winter during our coaching search I was told by someone in the athletic department that some with ties to the department wanted him to be interviewed for our HC job. Even with the gross lack of experience they were just that impressed with him. Based strictly on that I think the guy has a shot at being special. Okay boys fire away.

from all the interviews I have seen of people that know more than me (other coaches)....they say he has the uncanny ability to teach the game and explain what he wants done in very simple terms.....they credit this to his coaching in HS......who knows if he has what it takes to be a head coach but he does know offense

force them to bring in Franklin? Tubby resented that, and there was gnashing of teeth from the beginning.

the biggest difference was the pace. Mahlzahn wants to hurry every thing up and try to keep the defense from getting set up.

Not to take anything away from Mahlzahn, I think he's a good coach, and he was one of the guys I wanted to be our OC when we were looking for a coach, but Torbush made it a whole lot easier on him.

no support. Tubb's assistants refused to help him implement his scheme in practice and so he was trying to do everything by himself. AU now has qb's w/ two years in the system and better rb's. I think they are probably both good OC's but the jury is still out on Malzahn considering he took over a Tulsa team that was alreadys scoring tons of the points and has two games under his belt at AU. Need to see him v. a stout d first. Fortunately for him, there aren't many on the schedule. Saban will tear him a new one.
