FLORENCE - Mark Hudspeth is leaving his job as North Alabama's head football coach and will take a job on new Mississippi State coach Dan Mullen's staff.

UNA officials were waiting on Hudspeth's letter of resignation Saturday night, but it was confirmed by at least one member of UNA's coaching staff.

Defensive coordinator Karl Morgan, who was in Louisiana, said Hudspeth called Friday to tell him he was interviewing for the Mississippi State position, and later heard from other staff members that Hudspeth was leaving.

Although no official announcement was made at Mississippi State, speculation is that Hudspeth will be in charge of Mississippi State's passing game and a wide receivers coach.

Hudspeth guided the Lions to the Division II semifinals and a 12-2 record this season. He interviewed last week at Tennessee-Chattanooga. Hudspeth was 66-21 in seven seasons.

Absolutely. I'm actually more interested in defensive staff hires right now, because I'm confident we'll be able to score points eventually with this staff. Notice I said "eventually," because we do have to realize it may take a season to get the ball really rolling.
