Huggins Adds Fourth Recruit for 2017-18 MORGANTOWN, W.Va. (November 10, 2016)– West Virginia University men’s basketball coach Bob Huggins has announced that Derek Culver has signed a national letter of intent for the 2017-18 academic year. Culver, a 6-foot-10, 210-pound forward from Boardman, Ohio, currently attends Warren G. Harding High School, playing for coach Andy Vlajkovich. Last year, he led Harding to a 23-4 record and a regional semifinal appearance. In a season-ending playoff loss to Garfield Heights, Culver had 16 points and 12 rebounds per game. “Derek brings much-needed size and athleticism to the front line with the losses to our front line in the last couple of years,” Huggins said. “We expect him to be productive in filling those spots. He is a very agile big man who will be able to use his size and athleticism in our style of play.” For the season, Culver averaged 16 points, 10 rebounds and 2.5 blocks per game. Culver earned All-Ohio Honorable Mention honors by the Associated Press as a junior. He played AAU basketball for the Ohio Basketball Club. He is rated as the top-rated player in Ohio by many scouting services. Nationally, he is ranked No. 61 by Rivals, 75 by Scout and No. 78 by ESPN. Culver joins Teddy Allen (Mesa, Arizona/Boys Town High [Omaha, Nebraska]), D’Angelo Hunter (Louisville, Kentucky/Navarro College [Corsicana, Texas]/Pleasure Ridge Park HS) and Brandon Knapper (South Charleston, West Virginia/Hargrave Military Academy [Chatham, Virginia]/South Charleston HS) in the 2016-17 recruiting class.
