No coach making that much should ever be ok with his team shooting FTs this poorly and going 8 minutes every game without a basket.

Then blame refs for a loss when it was called dead even.

I'm sorry but I will be glad for a change one day from hack and bump, double team and hack, throw it into the post and hope for the best, brick FTs, go 8 minutes without scoring, blame the refs.

This has been the WVU basketball program the last 13 years other than 1 season.

It's like watching a NBA franchise that isn't good enough to win a championship but doesn't do bad enough to get a franchise player in the draft. They just float around the middle of the first round and never improve.

The only problem I had with Huggs in this game was his decision late in the 2nd half to abandon the zone that appeared to be working.

When KU would of held the ball and ran clock, that would not have been a good plan.

Pressure man to man was the correct thing to do based on score and time.

Yeah, let's throw Huggins out, after all he's never done anything and plus, WVU is such a national powerhouse in basketball that they'll have lots of great coaches beating down the door to coach there.

People get spoiled easily. Aside from a guy that went to WVU and is in the latter part of his career, like Huggins, it's going to be hard for WVU to keep a coach that wins a lot. Maybe we should just enjoy winning while Huggins is here because after he leave things could get way worse.

I could attempt to broach every
response directly but I'll just respond to your comments
(do not feel singled out).

It's classic here (next day analysis),
that "you all's tool" is to attack the subject presenter.

West Virginia developed a "Press Virginia" plan, to combat the inability to recruit shooters/scorers.
Javon Carter is gone, and West Virginia recruited big men,
1st time in recent memory. Nice.

But the single "critical attribute" missing
is Coach Huggins management of scorers/shooters like
Taz, Sean McNeil, McBride and anyone who can shoot over 35%, from the field
(35% geez, a low bar). Oh can't mention Teddy.


You all are afraid of the truth.

Hope we see some differences
vs Oklahoma State.

Archaic or not, WVU has been better under Huggins than it had been in the 40-50 years previously. Sure WVU had Beilien (sp?), but he didn't outdo Higgins during his time here and had problems with his teams as well. Namely getting killed in transition, ugly defense, and rebounding as well as a troop of girl scouts. Huggins has 12 full seasons and made the NCAA tournament 9 times. 5 out of those 9 his team made it beyond the second round. Previous coach made the tournament twice in 5 seasons, but did advance beyond the second round both times. Yet the moment he was courted by a bigger school, he bolted. Huggins is not perfect, but he is a better coach than 90% of the division 1 coaches out there and has had WVU at it's highest CONSISTENT level of competitiveness in it's basketball history.

  • When they do what Huggins tells them to do, it works. This is a very, very young team. Inconsistent. First half against Kansas Oscar has a double double in the FIRST HALF. Then no one could make a floor shot in the 2nd half. Something like 20%. Guy that killed Ohio State couldn’t make a bucket to save his soul.

EVERY player on this team is inconsistent, highs and lows. Again, very, very young team.


Coaching is all about guessing who has the hot hand, the good moves for the game being played. With this inconsistent, young team, it’s like trying to get myriad moving targets to cross paths.


As for free throws. It’s mindset. Make ‘em in the gym in practice, miss ‘em doing the game. Did you notice how many free throws were missed by Kansas, which has been to the rodeo many times? They are easy to make in the gym, or when you’re posting on this forum. Not so much when you’re breathing hard and sweating profusely. No excuse, though. Other players make 70% or more. WVU players should, too, every game. But they’re 18 to 22, when you can’t trust them driving a car, with a girl, with anything, much less on a basketball court.


When Oscar was a non-factor against Ohio State, the deep bench saved the game. THAT is WVU’s strongsuit: depth. I like the way Huggins runs in wave after wave of replacements so that no one is exhausted … except our opponents.


Have you counted the number of freshmen and sophomores who are saving game after game? The problem is that we don’t know, and our opponents don’t know, which players will be hot and aggressive and effective for a given game. Again, they are very, very young. So this team should get better and better and be a force to reckon with in March Madness and maybe even in the Big 12. Have you noticed that we lost by 2 to St. John’s with the help of a phantom foul call with 5 seconds left and that we had Kansas, which is a God in Phog, trailing WVU for most of the game, by as many as 10 points?


This team has a ton of young potential, and if it doesn’t work out it will NOT be because of Huggins. His resume is impeccable.


Huggins Heroes will prevail in the long run. They already were thisclose to being undefeated. They played #2 and #3, beat #2 and scared the poop out of #3 in their sanctuary. My alma mater will be fine. Just enjoy the run. I certainly will.

He always cries about the officiating, but nobody who would come to Morgantown would win more games than he has or will. You have to take the good with the bad. He's style is ugly, but often effective. Defense and rebounding are his priorities, and will win you a lot of games, if you're good at both, even if your shooting is subpar.

Self went small ball and our bigs helped off because of our inability to stop dribble drive penetration and then their bigs were coached to go to the hole when we helped. This exact scenario has played out many times.

That and our inability to space correctly on offense was ball game.

We have it so good at WVU.

If you went to WVU or live in WV, WVU is a perfect place....we could be Idaho or Montana.

WVU overachieves....every year. WVU is special and I wish our fans understood it.

I do understand.

Yes I do appreciate everything the players and coaches do. Especially the players.

But you can't solve an issue/problem
unless you identify the problem.
