Toward the end, he constantly threw his players under the bus and placed his pride and loyalty to his friends above the good of the program. Then he complained about getting a multimillion dollar payout despite being a failure.
I suspect that overall he's a good guy and the stress of being incompetent simply made him act out of character, but since he wasn't exactly gracious about being given the opportunity to be a head coach and even complained about not being given enough time, I think it's understandable for some state fans consider him an ***.
