Ole Miss is really 180 degrees opposite. They'll talk up someone that got one play in and did something noteworthy and they become a folk hero. (See Archie's stats)
In fairness to Archie that was a totally different time period as far as QB stats are concerned.

Congrats to Hines! Records are made to be broken. I hope he hits 20 more before the season ends. It didn't hurt Bruce's feelings when he passed him, it didn't hurt Will's and it won't Raffy's if he passes him.

But their non-conference games were against MC, Livingston, Delta State, Belhaven, St. Olafs, etc.

Edited: For years, Delta State had some great teams.
I wasn't trying to **** on anyone however Raffy and Clark hit homeruns in MLB Hines has not and I am damn sure if Raffy and Clark had played the past four-season at Mississippi State 67 would not be jack.

Sure. Let me know when Hines bats .467 with six runs, five RBIs, two homers, a double and a triple in a postseason series. Not a knock on Hines but comparing him to one of the most clutch postseason players of all time is laughable.

Oh no. People have dumb sports opinions. Maybe someone should set up a website where they can go and voice them away from here***
Or maybe Gene will come out of retirement and start one for all the s-e-n-s-i-t-i-v-e fans

Curious to know how the pitching faced was, on average, for Clark and Palmeiro during the 80's?

I am going to go out on a limb and say the stuff Hines is seeing, on average, is much better pitching.

I’m sure Raffy & Clark never had stat padding games against MS College
MC back then was a better team than several games we’ve played this year (SWAC schools, Manhattan, Queens), probsbly still is now But overall the SEC schedule was weaker. Still, nothing against Hines but I kind of hate to see Palmiero’s record broken.

For those that need to hear this: No one is saying Hines is as good as Clark or Palmeiro. At the same time, hitting 67 home runs in four seasons is quite the accomplishment, considering no other player who played four seasons at State has done it. And a lot of players have had the opportunity.

Something else that can be said: Hines' record may never be broken simply because playing four years at one school is becoming increasingly rare. So the fact that he hit 67 home runs while wearing our colors for four years should be celebrated without qualification.

Let's hope this is Hunter getting in a groove for post season play.

Can't we be grateful and all just get along?
If this is him hitting a stride right before post-season then State is going to make some noise. Over the last couple series he's also been way more patient, drawing walks like crazy. You'd figure he'd be swinging out of his shoes trying to hurry up and hit a couple homers to get the monkey off his back but he's been lacing singles and walking and just letting the homers come. He'll get at least 10 more AB's this weekend to try to break the record, and I hope I get to see it when he does.

Curious, why would you assume that todays pitching is "much better" and in what ways?

Is today's major league pitching "much better" as well?

The guys that Clark and Palmeiro faced in the 80's and continued making names for themselves were Dwight Gooden, Nolan Ryan, Roger Clemens, Orel Hershiser, Steve Carlton, Fernando Valenzuela, Dave Stewart, Ron Guidry, etc. Hard to imagine todays guys being "much better" than them...............

mainly talking the SEC slate... not Omaha arms...

I am guessing there were some below average SEC arms out there in the 80's compared to today but I am willing to be proven dead wrong

Hines SEC ranks:
  • slugging percentage: 13th
  • home runs: 7th
  • walks: 6th
  • runs scored: 11th

Absolutely. Clark and Palmeiro were amazing hitters. They also played before the SEC ever won a national title. Today, 15 of 16 SEC programs actually care and try to win in baseball, which wasn't the case in the 1980s.

In Hunter's first three seasons playing in the SEC, six schools played for a national title: five SEC schools and one school that joined the SEC this season.

I don't know HH personally, but just from watching his demeanor and reaction to highs and lows, etc. for 4 years... I am guessing that he doesn't get in a hurry about much of anything. He may be the most even keel masher I've ever seen.

Just imagine the threads if we got beat 25-7 😍😍😍

Solid gold reading material if that happened. Can you imagine if Lamonice was behind to any SEC team by 20 runs and Hunter went yard in the top or broom of the 9th. Definitely a Six Pack remembers thread.

That likely stems from the poor leadership over the last few decades
Maybe the Internet breeds toxicity. 100 negative takes for every 1 positive take.

We acknowledge that there are sunshine pumpers not living in reality.... So... Same can be said of the chicken littles and Eeyores on here.
