I was listening to Collin Cowherd this morning talking about how effective Denver has been wiht their hurry up offense. I also thought I heard on the Bama, Tenn broadcast about how Saban and Smart are masters in making defensive personnel changes.

Would we consider a hurry up offense as kid of a surprise?

Draw backs is we ahvfe not done it, that I have seen, so we'd be changing our style, etc... and we may not be ready to do it effectively. (See our Wildcat with Tubby). However, we are 24 point DOGS...so I would try something like this, especially if we are not able to move the ball effectively early.

No, I wouldn't. Our best chance of beating Bama is to shorten the game with long drives. It will be important to keep our defense off the field as much as possible, and I think a hurry up would put us at risk of quick 3 and outs and wearing out our defense. Not to mention, like you said, we're not used to that style. We just have to play our style, but play it to absolute perfection to win.

I don't think it's a good idea.

I don't think hurry up is really our identity at all and would be a foolish thing to do against such a high quality opponent. If we don't execute it at 100%, the only thing we will accomplish is giving the ball back to Bama more quickly and allow them to control the pace of the game by wearing out our D.

I think we have to do our normal thing on offense and hope we can have a balanced attack. If we are going to win, we need several long time consuming possessions to keep Bama's offense off the field. We aren't going to wear their D down, but if we can kill some time when we have the ball and manage to win the TO battle, we will have a chance. If we can't kill any time while we have the ball, it's going to be a long game.

Yeah, I didn't think about time or possession. Good point, though if we see we can't move the ball, I'd think about it. Maybe as a way to come back. I agree with the TOP point though and think that is the way to victory.

Maybe not so much "hurry up," but maybe some no huddle. Keep them from getting different personnel on the field but still let the clock run.

It's a great idea, if....

you can run it well and convert possession downs... Bama subs liberally with RE to down and distance...

However, if you go 3 & out and give Bama a short field too often, it will be a bloodbath by mid 3rd quarter.

Not a good idea from a couple of perspectives #1 as others have said allow your defense to rest on the sideline can't& plus it absolutely depleets your offensive line's stamina. We need them for 4 qtrs. #2 Tyler has been success ful because he has been able to read defenses so far. It somewhat puts too much pressure on him to speed that process up which WILL cause turnovers.

Hurry up really only works when you're getting first downs....

...and thus you're likely to be scoring more and having long drives. So you can do a little bit of both. I think it goes without saying that we have to ground and pound and take what they give us.

Bottom line, Mullen has to figure out how to score. Bama's going to get their grind-it-out touchdown every quarter or maybe a little less. I say we have to score more than 21 to win. We just can't have 3 and outs constantly all night. Thankfully Mullen has to make these decisions and not me. If we can hurry up and have success running, it will work. I don't like the hurry up while throwing it around, pitches and such....just invites you to turn it over....exactly what Bama wants.

I wouldn't run a hurry up offense against BAMA...

You're going to have over 100,000 people at this game and the last thing you want to do is hurry anything up and make a mistake. You want our offense to play steady and consistantly, get a 1st down every one or two plays and move the chains. We can't have any turnovers in this game and we must have possesion of the football longer and manage the clock and timeouts well. We have to make our short passes count and not go for the long passes against their secondary on defense. We definitely can't play Alabama in the first half like we did against Middle Tennessee!

One thing

we are going to have to do is on first down, when we pas, we are going to HAVE to execute. We cannot force ourselves into 3rd and longs by unsuccessful first downs (gaining no yards or negative yards)
