IMO, next year is without question an NIT team, just on paper alone. Pending the conference schedule, very well could be a bubble team as well. Where Miles screwed up, and I believe he would admit it, is recruiting early on. Too many failures and he's (we're) paying for it. He definitely picked it up in the last 2 classes, seems pretty obvious with the group of freshmen currently playing.

Yep, other B1G teams bring in elite talent too. The difference is though, for the first time, so is Nebraska...
Hope you're right...I do think we have the talent to compete. It may not seem like it but I actually really like Miles. I don't 100% agree with how he wants to play but I think he was what was needed to breath some life in the program. I'm just having problems seeing the light at the end of the tunnel. An elite Anton Gill would go a long long ways. Hopefully he's more like the top 50 recruit than he was the player at UL.

Right or wrong, doesn't really matter. Nebrasketball is in better shape today than we were 4 1/2 years ago and that bodes well regardless if it's Miles or someone else in charge. Recruiting here is now a proven....

Gill doesn't need to be a top 50 type guy, there's plenty of talent. What he did at Louisville is irrelevant, see Petteway, Pitchford and White. Winking

Miles deserves time because he is recruiting at a high level, and he has shown here and at CSU that he can take a bad program to the NCAA tournament. He has breathed life in the program compared to where it was.

With that said, his coaching has left a lot to be desired at times. He could be looking at a third losing season in four years. Overall, not much better than the last guy, even though he has 100x better facilities to work with. But when you look at the history of our program and the young nucleus of players he has brought in, he deserves the chance to develop these guys.

Miles has shown me a lot this year. The young guys certainly looked young/green/inexperienced early in the season. We've had some ugly losses (last night) and an inexcusable loss (Samford), but we seemed to have somewhat turned a corner after being 0-3, and have been pretty competitive since. Our out of conference losses take away Samford, have been good to really good teams (I know Carolina slapped Miami yesterday) with Nova, Cincinnati, Miami, and CU still isn't a bad team.

Recruiting has improved under Miles without a doubt. However, don't to continue to beat a dead horse, but we direly need an athletic 6' 9"- 6' 10" big guy, who can defend and rebound. With Miles' system and scoring would be a bonus. Without that guy, we are going to put guys like Morrow, Horne, and even Jacobsen in tough positions defensively.

A guy I know, who is lets say a media member (and I don't want to name him without his permission and note his opinions), and knows plenty about basketball, saw Horne play last summer at a tournament. He has the same fear that I have about Horne and Morrow. They are 'tweeners". They are big enough to be good players, but small enough that they can could be dominated, pushed around, and put into foul trouble against good teams in the BIG. It is going to be for a challenge for them to play the 4, but if they have to play the 4 and 5 in the BIG, we will continue to struggle in close games against quality competition. Especially when those teams like last night make the decision to go to the hoop.

So I'm hoping we get the kid out of Massachusetts who is 6' 10". He could instantly make all our front line players better, by allowing them to play what we want them to play, not need them to play. Also, I'm not in a hurry to run Hammond off after this year. He may not be a star, but he could certainly fill a role off the bench the next two years like many other guys his size do in college basketball.

If we get a decent "5" who can rebound and play defense to play with what is coming back next year, I think we could certainly be tourney bound. Without that guy, we should still have a good season, but likely an NIT team at best. It's too bad that we don't have that guy this year, as the BIG isn't as strong as some years in the past, and we'd certainly wouldn't be looking at having to be one of the bottom 4 teams that would have to play an early game in the conference tournament.

I haven't read any of the thread, but has anyone mentioned how bad our boxing-out was yesterday? We are already at a disadvantage without a banger inside. Why not box-out like a college team is supposed to, so we can be more competitive on the boards?

Haven't watched the full game yet, only parts of the 2H on my phone, we held the advantage on offensive boards 19-15. Kind of surprising we got that many offensive boards...

Was it during a spurt or what happened?

jacobsen was a man most of the game plus we missed a ton of shots.

I know we were outrebounded 46-38 overall, but it seemed like every offensive rebound Ohio State got, they scored. As in it looked like they had an easy path to the bucket once they got the offensive rebound.

I suppose without a decent big man, those rebounding numbers are respectable. But a lot of scoring can occur with an 8 rebound advantage, and yet we went to OT with 'em. The FT shooting didn't benefit us much either. We had to be below 60%.

We're so darn close to being a team to be reckoned with. We took a pretty good team (probable NCAA tourney) to OT, after being outrebounded by 8, and shooting less than 60% from the line, while they were close to 80%. And we did it with 3 true freshman out there most of the time.

With Shields out there during the Conference tourney, we may do some damage, and get to the NIT and then really do some damage.

If we can find a few bigs, I think this team is going to be damn good going forward. They aren't that far away. Recruiting has been good for the most part.

I'll check it out tonight, second chance points had NU at 20 and OSU at 8.

Wow, that is a very surprising stat. I know OSU seemed to have little trouble getting to the hoop, and they usually cashed in when they got there, but it seemed like they also got a lot of 2nd chances.

Ya, I'm only going off of the stats at huskers.com, anxious to watch the game tonight.

Not looking good for any postseason this yr....I see the ever so popular "next year" & "recruiting is good" mantra rolling in hard. Hello, yr #5 next year and the results are no better than the last coach (who some people ripped here as hard as you possibly can...).

The expectations are crazy low for 'skers BB..especially with all of the new state of the art facilities. Just make the tournament once and you're good for another 5-10 years...imagine if they were to actually win a NCAA game (that coach could never be fired).

Yes, I am hopeful that both of our men's programs will have more successful win/loss records in the future. However, my gut tells me that while hope is good, you better get a TV package if you want to watch teams that actually win...

They definitely dominated us in the paint (scoring) but not on the glass. It was good to see White shut down Tate late in the game, hindsight says the move should've happened sooner.

Tate is a *****.
