In Rivals history, have we ever been in on this kind of talent, this late in the game?

#3 Sarrell, final 2 or 3 [unlikely to commit]

#15 Holmes, final 3

#22 Shelvin, January visit set [unlikely to flip]

#23 Lewis, rumored co-leader

#85 Lenoir, January visit in works

#88 Blades, visit in works

#98 Johnson, rumored leader

#110 Graham, rumored leader

#118 Filiaga, visiting this weekend [unlikely to commit]

#187 Calvin, rumored final 4 & rumored leader

We may not get most of these but hopefully we get a few. This staff gets it.

I think we get 1, maybe two shocking commits. Lewis, Johnson, Graham, Calvin seem "N".

My two picks of the shocking is Shelvin and maybe Filiaga.(Shelvin I think has his eyes opened, and Filiaga I think gets enticed at facilities and support on par with Michigan, but much earlier playing time).

With D.W. striking a chord among DB's in general, I think Holmes fishes in less cluttered waters. We are in on a ton of DB's right now, for not very many slots.

i don't know how coaches do this ,, so much talent -- yet coming down to the wire

potential to land big fish or be left scrambling at the last minute

when is a 3* in the hand worth two - 4*s in the bush?? -- so much uncertainty -- I can't imagine my job hanging on the whims of high school kids
That is exactly what makes these coaches turn gray but their paychecks keep their egos in check. If I'm bringing home a couple hundred thousand each month, I can swallow my pride and let a 17 year old call the shots too.

Isn't this what we all wanted? I can't speak for you, but I get tired of always relying on diamonds in the rough. Want to compete with the big boys? Then we have to go through the nail biting with the top dogs. We won't get all of these. They are long shots. However, I believe we will get our share and maybe get some surprises. When the elite recruits get used to hearing our name in these battles then we won't have to work so hard to get our foot in the door. Hats off to our coaching staff for putting in the hard work. It all starts/ends at the top with Riley.

Great points ... agree
I wasn't at all criticizing or suggesting we settle .. just a lot of uncertainty which is difficult .. previous staff was too quick to settle

I have to give Riley his due. This list is very impressive and I'm glad he's going after the big recruits like he said he would. When he was hired, people were saying he was going to change recruiting and go after the big fish. I thought it was just rhetoric.

I never understood why Pelini didn't go after more top recruits. I don't think he got a single 5 star recruit, and only really targetted a couple in the top 100 each year. We're Nebraska, and we deserve better than that. Landing one or two 5 stars and a few more in the top 100 should be a priority each year.

Dez Fitzpatrick waited until February to announce his commitment to Louisville, ouch. I don't think the staff is going to wait around on a guy until February this time around without other options.

I did see an article on the other site in which Riley was quoted as saying that we're looking at filling about 6 more spots.

The Fitzpatrick mess is why you see the coaches still recruiting positions that appear full. Last year they were caught with their pants down when he told them he was going to UL, they had already let all other contact with a potential replacement dry up.

Riley is saying 6 because he isn't going to speculate on players who will leave or are going to be "asked to leave" who may have eligibility remaining. MY OPINION is that we will see more attrition than normal this year. In addition to Taylor, Hannon and Johnson trio, that get talked about, I believe there are a couple of other players that are getting recruited over, that have figured out the odds of them seeing the field are slim. They are young enough to where they can transfer and still play a couple of years. I also believe there will be a couple of position changes because IT IS MY OPINION that Banker is going to switch to an odd front in the spring. This OPINiON is based solely on the type, size, and number of the defensive linemen and linebackers being recruited.

This is the kind of recruiting NU saw in the last 5-6 years of the TO era...hopefully it leads to similar results. :)
I remember TO commenting that a player they really wanted turned us down because he thought we were "too good" for him. Kid even had Husker wallpaper in his room. Ohhh to get back there!

Updated, Holmes dad listed a top 4 of UCLA, USC, OSU, UM so he's removed.

Blades, enough talk going on he's visiting so I went ahead and added him.

Really no surprise here. I never consider Holmes to have us in his top 3 at any point during the process. As lon
G as he doesn't go to sounds or mich, I'm fine. Let's get GJ and Graham and maybe, blades and I'll be stoked.

At least we got Holmes on a visit here with KJJ and Gebbia last spring. We're gonna swing and miss with these kind of recruits. Holmes is probably staying home, my guess is USC. I'm pretty sure MR and staff moved on from him quite a while ago. What we can feel good about is at least the staff is going for gold. I can see 3-4 Top 150 guys committing to Nebraska.

These are the kinds of guys they need to be in on to get where they need to go.

Gotta coach up whoever you have. We all understand that. But if you want trophies, it requires elite recruiting classes. Period. All the recent national titles have gone to teams that had elite classes in the years leading up.

It was a dual threat QB from TX that TO really wanted and ended up at Baylor...can't remember his name but seems like he had knee issues and had a limited career.

Just looked him up...Odell James

You gotta get difference makers to get over that 9-10 win hump. Pelini was lazy. Period.

As someone who has been following husker football for over 7 decades, the answer is NO. We have NEVER been in on so much talent in December. Fingers are crossed.

I am one of those guys that looks at the top 250 every year to see how many folks have N listed. I have never seen our team in on this many talented prospects in my life! WOW! We should get a few of these guys which will make for a good class! And they are all over folks for next year already! I am impressed and I was skeptical like many of you when they hired Riley.

I don't know if he was lazy I just don't think he surrounded himself with the coaching talent level he needed to get the talented prospects on board. I also don't think they were very good at evaluating talent as we sure lost a lot of them once they got here.

I was standing by those guys at the spring game. I was by the fence and they all walked up and stood there shooting the crap. JR and Gebia were doing a hard sales pitch on him lol. You never know!

His top 4 announced today doesn't include NU apparently.

He was lazy. No reason to sugar coat it. He abhorred recruiting and surrounded himself with likeminded individuals. It wasn't by accident that they didn't recruit hard or well, it was by design

This is a really fun year on the recruiting side, close strong and this class becomes a foundation for many strong years!! How awesome would it be during the Army All Star game to have "I am going to Nebraska" 3-4 times! That would be huge
