I don't see how you can compare us as the heyday MSU when we were nowhere near that talent wise when Cohen took over. This program had 3-4 good pieces of talent scattered through a roster of 25-30 players, when Cohen came in here. If you remember anything from year 1 of Cohen we got beat by JSU, we had absolutely no pitching, it was so bad we mixed in a couple juco guys and loaded on all pitching the first recruiting class, the next class hitting was keyed on to try and get the talent at least respectful for SEC. this last class is the 1st class that seemed balanced and it was a smaller class than most because of all the young guys we have on roster. I just think it is crazy to compare our program to the unquestioned #1 team in america and former runner-up of the CWS. That would basically be like saying why is Alabama having success and NC over MSU, Saban only got there 1 year before Mullen. ...Compare us to Alabama or Ole Miss or Tennessee in baseball
I don't consider Cohen's recruiting a fail. It is light years a head top to bottom from what we were getting. It hasn't been perfect, but assembled a team to give results in year 3 and be able to recruit off that why he rebuilt in year 4... for some reason our fans are panicking over the fact that we replaced 7/9 include DH positions in our lineup and don't think we should struggle at all.
People get to caught up in the ingame management of thousands of situations, instead of looking at the big picture ...then they throw baseketball in and say well Stansbury was the all-time winningest coach ...Most of our fanbase realize Stansbury did a great job and he raised expectations, but the last 5 years he didn't mean the one expectations he set, So he saw that, to bad our fanbase doesn't and HE RETIRED, we didn't force him into anything ...we offered a package, he accepted MOVE ON!!
