As per Schiano, GW couldn't hit the broadside of a barn last scrimmage:
“(He’s improved) a lot (in his accuracy this offseason). That’s why a little of (his inaccuracy on Saturday) was surprising,” Schiano said. “But the most important thing was that he took care of the football because we will not turn the ball over. Today, the one’s and two’s didn’t turn it over ... The best thing we did on offense was not turn the ball over.”

So the team will try but not likely to "win lots".

Wow - that certainly wasn’t my take away from the presser… I took it as Greg saying “he’s been consistently better at practice. He was not better today in the scrimmage.”
Let me let you in on a secret. Everyone and everything is going to need improvement the first three weeks of camp. Then magically, everything will come together the last week of camp, and we’ll be ready for the season. That’s the way it’s always been. So yes, Gavin has to do better, but so does everyone else. Nevertheless the trend line is overwhelmingly positive.
Let me let you in on a secret. Throwing accuracy is very tough to improve, yes, arm strength, reads, foot work, etc., can be improved with repetition on and off the practice field, but not necessarily accuracy. Many a top QB prospect at all levels of football has failed due to the simple fact that they can't throw an accurate pass. And, let me let you in on another secret. Accuracy doesn't improve in games as opposed to practice. Games are much more stressful and therefore even accurate passers in practice sometimes struggle in games. If a QB is struggling with their accuracy in practice, they are not all of a sudden going to be able to turn it on in when it counts under stressful game situations.

Not one Rutgers quarterback hasn’t struggled with accuracy issues at one point or another, because they were due to poor mechanics rather than lack of talent.
Wimsatt shows he has what it takes when he threaded the ball between two MSU defenders so that Shameen Jones could catch a TD pass. He has made several other tough throws across his body to beat Illinois.
Where he has struggled is when he has made poor decisions and/or demonstrated poor mechanics, which can be corrected. That is why we are paying Kirk C.
As long as he completes 50% of his passes, that’s good enough, because he is going to make plays with his feet.
That is not a ticket for many wins at the B1G level. The defenses are too fast and big, and once they realize his passing limitations, they will focus on making him a pocket passer and controlling his running opportunities.
There are only three teams with the personnel to do that: Ohio State, Michigan, and Penn State.
Even so, TCUs Max Duggan completed roughly a little less 50% of his passes against Michigan, 14/29 and rushed 15 times for 57 yards, in leading the horned frogs to a 51-45 Victory over Michigan.
Wrong. Artur improved to beat Penn State and Nebraska, while playing for Illinois. He also beat Maryland while playing for us.

Right - but on the flip side, the take away from the presser didn’t exactly scream confidence from Greg that Gavin will execute in the games (I.e. your original post about a win machine or whatever you said). Seems to me Greg had been cautiously optimistic about Gavin’s development leading up to the scrimmage but then Gavin’s performance in the scrimmage gave him some pause.
I took Greg to mean that Gavin has some things to clean up. Not that Gavin may not have the talent to play at this level, which is what some drama queens have been broadcasting. Zero worries about Gavin. The kid has a good head on his shoulders.
I'd guess that it also had something to do with Gavin seeming hyped up a bit. Hope with practice and reps, the game slows down more for him. Hopefully with time (OL? please!) patience and understanding he can relax and get a little more accurate. There are just so many variables - new offense, pressure of being named starter, his relative in-experience.
You are actually off base here, but not surprised.
If we are basing "accuracy" on completion % and TD/INT ratio--
Nova did indeed have his best year in 2014 under Friedgen
57.2% 22/12 (but not that much better than 2012 57.0% 22/16)
Laviano actually had a higher completion % and TD/INT ratio in 2015 before Ash came in and ruined everything:
60.9% 16/12.
Gio was in the 40-50% range his last 2 years.
In limited spurts, Artur was actually accurate at times, but IMO, it's better to judge a larger body work- a season.
Noah had 61.5% 9/8 in 2020 and 59.4% 7/7 in 2021, but the offense was dink and dunk.
Onward/upward, hopefully.
On the year, Duggan completed almost 64% of his passes for over 3,600 yards, 32 TDs and only 8 ints. Please stop, Duggan is an accurate passer who can also run, that is a deadly combination and that presented numerous problems for Michigan. He is not a one-dimensional player.
How Gavin will perform in real game situations this season is a big question mark. Entirely TBD until he shows he can execute. Not a given he’s going to suck but far from a sure thing that he’ll be materially improved from last year under real game pressure conditions. As I said, very much TBD.
So, none of those other QBs ever improved while at RU. Thanks for proving my point.
He wasn’t that accurate against Michigan and his squad still won the game. Winsatt is going to run wild this year.

Yes, which makes it *totally* inappropriate for you to treat him like a demigod by anointing him "Win-satt." He's nowhere near that level yet.
The point is up to that game he had been an accurate passer, so they couldn't game plan for just the run. Not the same for Wimsatt at all, teams know full well his accuracy issues going into the games, they can game plan accordingly. Apples to oranges.
According to reports, Wimsatt isn't even the most accurate QB on the roster.
