I 17'ing hate the Saints- but they have drafted great tonight

for a RB that's had knee surgery already.

Just always felt that he was one of those good players that just benefited greatly from his team.
that's how he got his yardage. He is as strong of a 215 lb back as I've seen. Ballard is also very strong for his size.
Ingram is an Emmit Smith type player. He is short, stocky, and low to the ground. Good between the tackles. He is a feature backjethreauxdawg said:

I've just never been amazed by either guy. I think they are good, but I don't think either are the elite player the press says they are. They have been surrounded by great teams that have made them look great. I imagine Ingram will have a similar career to Bush. Nothing to hang his head about, but won't get a glimpse of Canton.
Just watch some of his highlight film. It is unbelievablehow many times he was never even touched until he was already 5, 10, 15 yards past the line of scrimmage. He did a great job in open space but all good RBs can make people miss in open space. His whole career he has run behind all SEC offensive lineman + one of the the best blocking (if not the best) WRs in recent years.
I don't see the Packers, Patriots, Colts, or Steelers jumping up and taking players for future 1st round picks.
I didn't think the Saints were hurting at RB anyway. Ingram is good, but teams can find RBs later in the draft AND kept their 1st round pick next year.

The Patriots are the best team in the draft today, and they have been for years. No question about it. They trade down, they find value throughout the draft, and they stock up draft pics. You never see them jumping up and taking draft picks, same with the Steelers.

With more and more teams going to a rotation of backs and with the success of tons of undrafted/late round type guys, I wouldn't waste a first round pick on a RB when I could get a serviceable to good one later in the draft or in free agency.
They traded down two years ago and missed on Clay Mathews who was taken in the spot they traded back from, and now they need a OLB bad. They need a RB and just traded out of the spot that Mark Ingram was taken in. Both not great moves.<div>

I said they are alike in the fact that they are both overrated, not that they are identical players
...on SportsCenter this morning with Mike Torico, he made two good points about the Saints first round picks.
- He said the Saints offense is usually scoring a lot of points, forcing the opponent to play catch up and throw it every down. Therefore, the Saints needed a pass rusher - got it with Cam Jordon with their 1st pick.
- Then, Herm said, the Saints need to be able to close out games in the 4th Quarter by running the ball (which they were missing late last year). They needed a bruiser/strong guy to get the ugly yards late while giving depth there to help two guys coming off injuries, Pierre Thomas and Ivory. Got it with Mark Ingram with their 2nd pick.
I think they made two excellent picks. Plus, you have to think they see the window of opportunity may start closing a bit after this year so they are going for it all. I don't fault that logic a bit. Go Saints!
