I-55 is one of the most vital north south trucking routes in the country and it’s been 4 days since the weather cleared up. It’s reasonable to think that an interstate of all things should be clear by now.Why are people going through there to begin with? I know this is America and all, and you can do whatever you want to do, but I don't understand why m17ers are out there. Just like those clowns heading down the roads in all those tornado videos. Are you that far in your own world?
Trucking is one thing, what about all these stranded motorists? And I also have to think that MDOT had a good reason for not plowing. I'm not obviously there but possible that they tried and couldn't? It's not like they are completely quiet on it, they are actively telling people to avoid it.I-55 is one of the most vital north south trucking routes in the country and it’s been 4 days since the weather cleared up. ?It won't happen because Tate is one of Trump's boys but I don't think it would be unreasonable for the DOT to have a little "prayer meeting" with MDOT and Tate about this .
you also have a lot of parents trying to get their kids out of Oxford. That’s not a joke. Why are people going through there to begin with? Yes. No traction. So when you say stranded, do you mean that the vehicles have no traction and they have skidded off the asphalt?
If I had a child in Oxford with no vehicle I’d be busting my assto come get them.you also have a lot of parents trying to get their kids out of Oxford. That’s not a joke.
Same….and I wasn’t mocking. There are some with vehicles too who may not be skilled enough to navigate their way out of town.If I had a child in Oxford with no vehicle I’d be busting my assto come get them.
May be difficult for some folks to comprehend, but many people don't have the ability to just stay home. They have to get to work or they don't get paid.Trucking is one thing, what about all these stranded motorists? And I also have to think that MDOT had a good reason for not plowing. It's a shlt situation so I get that people are beyond frustrated but the shutdowns on that map are the direct areas where the ice storm was the worst.
Has there mom sent an email to the boss?May be difficult for some folks to comprehend, but many people don't have the ability to just stay home. They have to get to work or they don't get paid.
judging by the reaction to the viral MSU math prof's email, I'd say most likely yes, and lessons are being learned.Has there mom sent an email to the boss?
I don't understand why they don't close the off ramps, they do it all the time up North. Basically if you get off for service you can't get back on.Trucking is one thing, what about all these stranded motorists? And I also have to think that MDOT had a good reason for not plowing. Some friends of ours have a daughter down there. A tree fell on her car and electricity was out at her apartment. They drove down and got her out but it took forever. I’d do the same in that situation. If I had a child in Oxford with no vehicle I’d be busting my assto come get them.
If I had a child in Oxford with no car right now it would be because I had been in a coma the last two weeks and couln't go and get them BEFORE THE 17ing STORM HIT ! I don't know how much more warning we could have been given. I hope all those kids are ok but the fact is a lot of parents let them down by not having them at home when the storm hit in the first place. Excuse the rant but it just pisses me off .If I had a child in Oxford with no vehicle I’d be busting my assto come get them.
I'd tell mine to find a big bootie girl to snuggle up with.If I had a child in Oxford with no vehicle I’d be busting my assto come get them.
A family friend drove up to Ole Miss yesterday, via the back roads, to pick up her daughter. It took almost half a day but she did it. I'm guessing it helps if you're coming from southern Miss/La.you also have a lot of parents trying to get their kids out of Oxford. That’s not a joke.
Memphis didn't get hit as hard as North Mississippi.Hmmm, look at all of those green roads in and around Memphis and then look South. Somebody from down South needs to call somebody up North and find out how that works.....................
Should people reach out to you and make sure you approve of their travel plans before they leave the house? Why are people going through there to begin with? I know this is America and all, and you can do whatever you want to do, but I don't understand why m17ers are out there. Just like those clowns heading down the roads in all those tornado videos. It’s not that simple. There are students at every university who are plane rides away from home. They didn’t just hop in the 4-Runner and drive up from Madison. And as for Ole Miss itself… last week they cancelled class for Monday. Then Sunday they cancelled for Tuesday. And then on Tuesday they cancelled the rest of the week.If I had a child in Oxford with no car right now it would be because I had been in a coma the last two weeks and couln't go and get them BEFORE THE 17ing STORM HIT ! Memphis got the same amount that Desoto county did. It was all sleet.Memphis didn't get hit as hard as North Mississippi.
I talked to two of the CN guys yesterday in a staging area for the railroad. They were texting pictures home because they’d’ never seen ice do so much damage.Imagine how long it'll take to get power back in the worst areas when the roads are impassable for workers. The Canadian guys down here helping must find our winter prep laughable.
That was the conundrum my nephews were in. My sister in law suggested they come up here and come home but they didn’t want to potentially get stuck up here and Oxford not get anything and the university say “too bad”. Fortunately by some miracle one of them never lost power and the other along with his wife and kid went east to Alabama to stay with his wife’s family because they couldn’t come this way. It’s not that simple. So the university was telling kids, in essence, you’ve got a 3 day weekend but be here Tuesday because we’re business as usual.
Then by daybreak Sunday it was way too late for the majority of them to get out.
There is a bonafide fiasco happening on that campus right now.
Yeah they don’t get ice like this. Not on this scale.I talked to two of the CN guys yesterday in a staging area for the railroad. They were texting pictures home because they’d’ never seen ice do so much damage.
From that map it seems the gridlock is in Panola up through Lafayette/Marshall. That's the ice.Memphis got the same amount that Desoto county did. It was all sleet.
Are we not looking at the same map? Yellow leads into red (where the worst of the ice is). Makes sense. Hard to plow ice.Look at the picture, the yellow and red lines literally stop at or just past the MS -TN state line
