Yes... 5-7 sucks. 5-7 is not getting the job done. But, I have seen improvement over the course of the season. Nebraska's offensive numbers are truly impressive. The two "hand to the head" calls against Illinois and now Iowa were not nearly as bad as once thought.

Against Illinois, it was a QB keep and our QB decided to make a play. Against Iowa, the tight end was the perfect call and he was wide open - not only for a first down but likely he scores.

I believe the defense took major strides throughout the season and I'm convinced we aren't sitting on another Cosgrove situation.

I think the right men are leading this team - the culture has slowly changed and with the right personnel, I do see great success for the Cornhuskers in the coming seasons.

they need to meld the concept of the perfect call with an accurate assessment of their personnel

the perfect call isn't always able to be executed, I will say however that those two calls should have been able to be executed by any reasonably competent QB .. but again you have to know that your QB doesn't fit that description

I've been withholding judgment until the end of the year. I've seen enough to be more pessimistic than optimistic. But the staff still has my full support even if they don't have my full confidence. I'd love for nothing more than them to prove my concerns wrong.

I admire your optimism I do but unfortunately I do not share it

Those two calls may have been the right calls if one of the Manning boys was QB but not with a poor decision making QB as TA - those calls and the coaches defending their calls just tells me how bad of coaches they are.

Defensive wise yes they played somewhat better the end of the year but the alarming thing for me all year long is how they folded when we needed them the most. How many game winning drives did they give up? and against Iowa although the yardage stat is good they gave up TD'S in big chunks ON THE GROUND` and gave a score for every turnover - not a sign of a good defense

**** they were the right 2 calls if almost anyone other than TA was the QB ... Rex Burkhead would have executed those two plays

Question: How many teams actually try a fade pass on 4th and 1 in that situation? Would a sharper coach figure to not give a struggling qb that kind of option? Doesn't mean they get a 1st down if they try a run, but the way Tommy was playing makes you wonder why they left that (fade) option available. Par for the course, I guess.

TA has a lot of athletic talent but it's amazing how he simply can't resist throwing the long ball.

Just re-watched 4th and 1. If TA throws to Carter right away...first down. If he looks right, then throws back left...TD?? Dang.

Exactly. The play call was actually brilliant and would have resulted in a huge play with 6 minutes left and a ton of momentum, overcoming the 4 picks. But NOPE.

Indirectly, the fact that our QB felt he could throw the fade falls on the coaches. But the play call does not fall on them directly.

5-7 is awesome. Unbelievable and comical. .500 coach and you think we are on the right track.

I'm guessing coaches drew that up with the TE in mind - turning and throwing to a nearly stationary target. Look off the CB and that one is money. Becomes the 'brilliant' play call that killed us against Texas in the 1996 Big XII Championship game.

Maybe you should re-read my initial post. I said directly that 5-7 sucks. But I can see through the record to the potential of this staff. I guess you would have fired Saban after his first losing season too.

Langsdorf is a horrible play caller and he hasn't dvloped Tommy at all. I hope he gets fired or leaves for another job. Hopefully Tommy quits as well. Another year like this next year and there will be a lot of unsold seats the following year.

Knowing Tommy likes to throw the deep ball, why is the fade even an option on a 4th and 1? Poor execution and poor coaching

Yes, let's eliminate all the routes in which the QB may be tempted to chuck it deep. That aspect of the call is definitely on the coaches.

Too many coaching snafus to be that optimistic. I like Riley's demeanor, etc., but his coaching prowess is unimpressive. I get the talent situation, that is solvable, but just great talent won't get us a NC caliber team. Keep going to the games....GBR

I'll state for the record, I am not an offensive coordinator, but it would seem plausible that having a receiver go deep on the other side may be required to pull the safeties or at least to shape the defense. I remain optimistic.

Calling a pass play at that point in time is telling your offense that you do not have any confidence in them. It was a BS call!

Just when I think the coaches are starting to "get it," they go and do something so incredibly stupid (4th down call) that I just stare into space wondering what they were thinking. An 11-year old could have made the right call on that play. I also don't like the fact that despite Amani Cross running very effectively against a better front 4 (MSU) than we saw yesterday...they still trotted Newby onto the field. Ugh..
