the reason everything is quiet is because our hire is coming from a team that played this past weekend or is waiting on the BCS teams to be announced. They are not wanting to take away from that. Its not because we have a ****** job or that nobody wants it, thats a load of crap.

We will have a coach named by tomorrow or Tuesday. I know you guys arent used to having a real search because of LT, buy calm down. Kevin Bacon say all is well.</p>

Nobody believes anybody, but everybody is convinced of something.

That would be funny if I also wasn't already convinced of something.

I think that who ever it is was coaching this weekend.

I don't think it's Mullen, I've heard nothing of his name here in Gainesville. Our search hasn't even been mentioned.

I don't think it's Pertersen. I know this press conf. got lots of folks fire up. WHy would he hold a press conf in front of the AD, players and boosters to announce he was leaving the day of their bowl selection?

I believe there could be only two possible reasons why we have not announced a coach yet. Either we have not landed one yet or for the reason you stated. There would not be any reason to wait over the weekend to announce if our selection was either a currently unemployed former head coach or a coordinator from any school, including from those that played this weekend.

and Tuesday? Well duh, if we know by tomorrow Tuesday would be a given unless you're trying to push your coach selection back a day.

But it goes further than LT.

Shira resigns, and his assistant Bob Tyler takes over.

Tyler fired by NCAA, and Bellard was hired- not sure how much of a search was done at that time, but we got him from Texas A&M.

Bellard fired, and we take a chance on school legend Rocky Felker.

Felker gets fired, and Dr. Zacharias hires Jackie Sherrill against he will of LT.

Sherrill gets fired and we hire Croom, which was common knowledge by the Egg Bowl in 2003.

Also, consider the media cycle. Based on the projected news conferences in Jackson and Starkville, you already know GB is quite media savvy, which means he's thinking huge coverage of this announcement.
Wait until after the Bowl Games are decided, after all the NFL games are played out and after all the good football news is off the wire. That way, you have no predictable stories to compete against; just NHL and NBA games. Then, when you steal a major coach from a major program, you've got the lead in almost every newspaper in the Southeast and the main story on every major sports website.
If Byrne's goal is to put State on the map, this is the ultimate chance.

This is the worst possible scenario for Mississippi State

Tyler (the hand picked heir to Vaught) went to Ala as an assistant after the behind the back knifery in Oxford. An outstanding hire if he had not gone apeshit power hungry crazy.

After Bellard, we had Spurrier all but hired before a 17up by the then and soon gone AD. Felker actually was the desperate 4th choice.

Sherrill would have been a better hire if someone had properly placed a 2X4 up LT until he spit out toothpicks.

Now Croom I agree because was a no search PC hire. But on one knew at the time simply wasn't head coach material and never grasp the concept of recruiting.
