I am having a hard time wrapping my brain around this bowl thing

We lose 6 out of our last 7 games being out scored in those losses 220-108. The only win in that stretch is against a horrible Charlotte team. Our final record is 5-7 / 2-6. And after this underwhelming season, ESPN projects UK to the Indendence Bowl. So, Stoops and staff get to further their resumes by by being rewarded with a bowl game. And yea, Mitch has to be ecstatic that HIS GUY has led us to a bowl. I'm sorry, but in my 50 years of following college football this is absolutely the most absurd thing I have ever witnessed. When did coaches and teams start getting rewarded for total failure? And this season, IMHO, was a complete failure. I will watch the game and hope our Cats pull out a win......but will never really wrap my head around this ridiculous occurrence...if indeed it does come about.

It is crazy that teams with 6 - 6 records, and especially losing records, can go to a bowl game. It tells you there are too many bowls. That being said, this team needs the extra work. If there is an offer from a bowl, we would be crazy to turn it down.

We've been selected to a bowl? If so I really hope people don't act like stoops did something special by taking us to a bowl. We didn't earn it. I really hope no one uses this to defend stoops and the atrocious job he's done here by trying to say we've improved since we made a bowl. I pray we didn't get rewarded for our horrible effort and performance. No reason to get rewarded for playing and coaching like trash for an entire season. Please say it ain't so?

We aren't going to a bowl game. They are using APR scores as the determining factor and for some ungodly reason we have a pathetic APR score.

That bowl projection was before the APR selection. I think a bowl has been ruled out.

Since we were never eligible for a bowl game to start with I guess the whole purpose of this thread was to bash the coaches some more. I think we are already in the overkill mode, let them try to keep this class together in peace if you really want to see any improvement.

Nothing happening this year to Stoops, let him and his crew work their magic in recruiting so IF/WHEN they fail they will leave enough talent that really qualified coaches won't laugh when offered the job.

He has already given them a blueprint for how to recruit at UK and has shown that it can be done..

I think they need to cut a few bowl games because I believe it is getting out of hand that teams that have losing records can go. Enough is enough.

In 1989, we went 6-5 and weren't selected for a bowl.

Times have changed.

The landscape of college football has changed, especially now with the playoffs. Now, the only bowls that truly matter are the playoff bowls to determine a national champion. The others are just an opportunity for teams to get extra practices and games, and fans a chance to watch their team one last time with a chance to travel (albeit not always the most exciting places).

I don't know why anyone cares anymore how many bowl games there are, who goes and their record. As said above, it's simple, if you don't want to go, don't go. If you don't want to watch, don't watch.

When you consider MOST teams lose money going to bowls, it is mind boggling why there are so many.

Once you take the team, the admins, cheerleaders, bands, boosters, etc.. there is little money to be had by the teams in the lower bowls, even when the NCAA covers certain expenses.

Bowls, especially minor bowls, are nothing but corporate tax write offs for sponsors. They really don't care if you buy tickets or attend.

Otherwise, as previously stated, don't go or watch.

But that isn't the bottom line, money IS made, the rest of the conference teams make good money, the participant only loses money because they bear all the expenses AND share all the money. UK would give all the other SEC teams a hundred Thou or so if they went to a bad bowl, but will make about a Million or so from EACH of the BCS or playoff games the SEC plays in.

It is time we did our little share.

Way too many bowl games out there to begin with. If you're a team and you have a losing record, you don't deserve to play in any bowl. The fact that some teams with losing records can go and play in bowl games is insane to think about! When so many bowls are out there, it makes bowl games not as big of a deal as it once was. This team really doesn't deserve any type of bowl game and i would think the same for any team with a losing record.
