We held Auburn to 120 yards rushing on 36 carries, for 3.3 ypc. No one else held them under 210.
Their longest run was 15 yards. Against LSU it was 17. The next shortest was 28.
We averaged 8 yards per pass and 5 yards per run.
Auburn turned it over three times. We didn't turn it over at all.
We had the ball for 34:23 to Auburn's 25:37. Of course HUNH accounts for some of this.
While Auburn was only flagged once, we only committed five penalties for 33 yards.
We were 2-2 on fourth downs, yet didn't go for it on fourth and 2 with 2 minutes left.

Yet we lost....

....because we stupidly went for two early on.
....because after Marshall fumbled a snap we let Quan Bray get loose for a long TD.
....because Marshall completed a pass to himself for 37 yards to set up a FG.
....because we played soft with two minutes left.
....because Bell missed a FG.
....because Jameon dropped a pass.
....because we can't take advantage of breaks against a lot of team, but Auburn in particular.

And now all I hear about all day long is how great Auburn is.

Because Dan was more concerned with eating clock in the 2nd half than scoring again.

Yes, we should have beaten Auburn, but you really shouldn't compare our defensive stats to other teams that played Auburn. Nick Marshall was still learning the offense when we played them. If memory serves, he didn't even go through Spring Training at Auburn. They threw an 34 passes in that game, which is pretty high for Auburn this season. In short, even though I am happy with MSU's defensive improvement this season, I think Auburn would kill us if we played them again.

It was early in the year...is it possible for teams to get better as the season goes on(especially Auburn)?? Remember Cam Newton year...they beat us 17-14

Point 3 - I would like someone that still has this, to confirm that Marshall was not over the LOS when he threw the ball.

On a similar note, I think that Auburn had illegal receivers down field on the last touchdown in regulation Saturday night. They kept reviewing whether he was over the LOS, but the linemen looked over for sure.

It's got a lot to do with whatever deal they made with the devil this year. Their win against us was one of three (maybe four) lucky wins that they had this year. The last play they made to beat us wasn't luck...it was good play calling and execution. But there were several plays in that game (Marshall's pass to himself for instance) that were pure, unadulterated luck. Same against Georgia, same against Alabama at the end of the game. That being said they have a great team to keep in a game against Bama and Georgia. It just seems that the ball ALWAYS bounces their way this year.

Coming from experience though....when those lucky streaks end it get's bad

Dawgzilla and the SEC are right. Marshall wasn't even close to being over the line of scrimmage. And this is the first I've heard of the 3-yard rule for linemen downfield, but it does appear to be a legitimate rule.

Yeah, I'm pretty sure he was behind the line. But there were definitely lineman down the field past 5 yards. That should've been called back.

It is hard to stomach. Aside from the last drive of the game, the majority of their offense came on two fluky plays.

Auburn got better every game which is the sign of good coaching. We got better

the last three games. If we had a rematch with a fully healthy Dak and the way our defense is playing I think it would be a great game.

Again-point 3 from original post, where he threw to himself. If someone still has that dvr'd, check and see if he was past the LOS.

It looked like it to me, but I admit, I had been drinking.
