we couldnt go 13-2 before the SEC starts? Hell, we went 10-5 this past year
we couldnt go 12-4 in the SEC? Sure we could. Hell, we have Tenn and Kentucky in Starkville next year
We couldnt make the Finals of the SEC Tourney? Or even win it?
We couldnt make a Sweet 16?

While I agree with you that making a Sweet 16 under Coach is close to preposterous, what else is impossible in that scenario?

30 games, you "expect" it to happen next year. ****, the year we won the SEC with a 14-2 record, we only won 26 games. We would have had to make the national championship game to get to 30 wins. It's amazing you would think we could get 30.

I agree we should always strive to do better but be realistic at the same time.

I expect us to be a better team next year. And none of the things I mentioned are unreasonable expectations. You look at 30 like its an impossible number, but if you break it down like I did, you see it is very reachable

in arguably our best regular season ever in 2004, we would have had to make the national championship game to win 30 games.

I say it's damn near unreachable. You have to have a run in the SEC Tourney and the NCAA Tourney to reach it. We lost 0 games in the preseason in 2004, 2 in the SEC schedule, 1 in the SEC Tourney, and lost to Xavier in the 2nd round. Once aGAIN, we would have had to make the national championship game to reach 30.

Anything is possible. HD6 could wake up skinny tomorrow but us winning 30 games and that happening have the same chance.

we can play 4 more OOC games now than we did in 2004? We played 11 that year, we played 15 this past season...That kinda helps get closer to that number

still say it's idiotic to expect it because even though our team should be better, I don't see 30 wins at all. I think 25 should be the goal with a Sweet 16.

credibility with your Delk ********. Delk left because he was not going to start last year, and he would not be in the top 8 or 9 for us in 2010. Loaded

in the "you can't support your claim, so you won't even try" column. Please don't say they are loaded again or I will simply refer to this post. You ignored the question three times because you can't support the claim with comparisons to teams that really are loaded. I'm not allowing you to pull the standard Coach34 move and turn the argument to something else (like Delk). You lost this one. That's probably a pretty common feeling for you, but not for Rick.

I get tired of hearing you harp about how bad our schedule always is so I decided to look up the strength of schedule we've had the last few years. Make of it what you will, but I don't think its too terrible. I'll grant you we're not world-beaters, but other than 3-4 years we've always had a respectable schedule. The rankings are from kenpom.com, and coincidentally the rankings go back as long as Stansbury has been here.

The rankings are: '09 - 69, '08 - 60, '07 - 38, '06 - 58, '05 - 51, '04 - 56, '03 - 31, '02 - 28, '01 - 37, '00 - 73, '99 - 126.

Edited cause it was kinda hard to read when the way I first typed it out.

How have we suddenly gone from a "zero chance" of winning in Tampa to winning 30 games next year with the same team? You are either a bigger homer than myself (doubtful) or you are intentional raising the bar to a level that Stansbury cannot attain so you will believe yourself to be a genius if he fails.

its the SEC bringing our SOS up. Our non-conference schedule is weak as hell each year. Touting Clemson and Miami as proof you are playing a tough OOC schedule is really weak.

Meo and Hanmu like to throw out we cant get home and home with big schools because we arent on that level yet, but Tennessee was able to do it immediately when Pearl got there and they had been losing. How did Tennessee do it?
Coach wins "20 games a season", so why arent we more recognized as a top basketball school?

and with having everybody back that helped us attain that- plus a juco player- the bar has to be raised. In no way would you not expect another team in a major conference in the country to achieve much more with what returns. You read where I broke down the season- what part dont you agree with?

After going 10-5 while "rebuilding", why cant we go 13-2 with everybody back?
After going 9-7 in the SEC, why can't we go 12-4? Especially with Tenn and Kentucky coming to the Hump?
We won the SEC Tourney, why couldnt we win a couple of games next year?
And we made the Tourney, we will have a better seed next year. Why can't we make the Sweet 16 at the very minimum?

Those are all very attainable goals and you know it

what part of the schedule I broke down is unreasonable? Obviously 30 is top end, but it is a reachable goal

the top teams will be better, but the lower half will still be awful.

State and Mississippi will control the West with a little push from UPig. Auburn and LSU will take a step backwards, and God only knows what Bammer will do.

Tennessee will rule the East with Florida challenging. SC will be good if they dont lose Downey to the draft, and Vandy was young and will be a little better. Kentucky is going to lose their two best players, and Georgia will be awful aGAIN

the top teams would be better. But the top teams are going to battle it out just like they did this past season. The conference still has some bad teams, and that helps get the wins. We lost both games to LSU and Auburn last year, nobody in the West will sweep us next year.

Its overall. I thought about doing non-conference about halfway through it, but didn't want to put that much effort into it at the time. I'll try to look up non-conference later within the next couple days. I agree OOC tells the greater story of how we schedule, but you also have to look at the argument used for football - the conference is generally pretty good so you don't need to schedule as hard in OOC. I know its not a perfect translation from football to basketball, but I think there is some validity to it. Like I said, I'll admit that the strength of schedule won't blow you away with how tough it is, but I think its respectable and not as bad as KB34 and you want to make it out to be.

of teams we have played OOC during the first 11 seasons of the Stansbury tenure. Also notice that we only averaged 4.5 games a season against any team of note, and many of those games are due to postseason- not scheduled games:

all the BCS teams we have played in the Stans era. Added in other notable teams. I was generous and counted UAB, USM, George Mason and Charlotte as notable teams. Some of the others like Va Tech are questionable too.

99: 10-4 lost to Texas and Florida State (0-2) both neutral court

00: 8-4 lost to Stanford and Rutgers (0-2) both neutral court

01: 10-3 won @Arizona, USM(h), and @Pitt; lost to @Cal and Tulsa(h) (3-2)

02: 13-2 lost to Cincinnati and Texas (0-2) both neutral court if you call UT neutral

03: 10-2 won Xavier, @UAB, and Oklahoma; lost to Butler (3-1) all other neutral except UAB road

04: 12-1 won UAB(h) and Xavier(h) (reg season); lost to Xavier (NCAAs) (2-1) two home wins

05: 13-3 won @Xavier, Virginia Tech and Stanford; lost to Syracuse, Arizona and Duke (3-3) road win, all others neutral

06: 10-3 won @Charlotte and George Mason(h -their Final Four team) (2-0) (1 home win, 1 road loss)

07: 9-4 won Charlotte(h), Bradley(h), @Miami and FSU(h); lost to Winthrop(h), @Clemson, @Missouri and West Virginia (4-4) 3-1 at home, 1-2 on the road, 0-1 neutral

08: 10-6 won Missouri(h) and Oregon; lost to Clemson(h), Southern Illinois, Miami(h), and Memphis (2-4) 1-2 at home, 0-3 neutral

09: 10-6 won Houston, W. Kentucky, and S. Alabama; lost to Texas Tech, Charlotte, Washington St, Cincy and Washington 3-1 home, 0-1 road, 0-3 neutral

115-38 non conference (roughly)

22-27 against BCS conference or other teams of note

94-12 against the no name teams (so that means 11 bad losses to the Southeastern Lousiana, Valpo, Richmond and Northwestern States of the world)

Home 10-5

Road 6-4

Neutral 5-17
