it's decision time for Yuku. No one else provides threaded view. How tied are you to it? Discuss.

Does it make or break sixpack with its uniqueness?

I'd still come around to read the pack but definitely not as much if it were like TigerDroppings or some of the other boards without our view. Those 10 page threads where everyone has to quote each other are terrible.

Outsource creating a threaded view forum to one of the programming majors. It'd look great on a resume for them and I'm sure folks would rather donate funds to a MSU student than some random forum board management company.

I'm personally not in love with threaded view and would be fine if it went away.

It's much more easier to keep up with individual ideas within a thread, as there's no confusion who's replying to who, so long as they've seen the tutorial.

I think yuku is so archaic and with the ability to "watch threads" a la xenforo it's so much easier to know if someone replied to your thread or quoted you. Also you are able to mention users imagine the ability to go back and quote or mention Coach34 this board would jump all over the opportunity

I like it just like it is. Much easier to follow and quicker to read than topic view boards.

I am just getting use to this. I hate change. If it isn't broke don't mess with it.

..same reason that vbulletin and phpBB are the most popular message board platforms.

Threaded view is only useful for reading the subject lines in responses.

All the other boards are great for following discussion because most figure out that quoting is necessary. And oh yeah, enable 2-3 levels of quotation,

I hate having to mouse over every response to see if there's message text, and then having to open a new tab for it if there is. NAFOOM and Sixpack are the only forums I've visitedin the past decadethat use threaded view, and that's not anexaggeration. You have to look hard to find places that still use it. As for Yuku: it is awful, spreads spyware, and is basically unusable without adblock.<div>
</div><div>I know some people like Yuku/threaded view, but for the life of me I can't understand why. Use a real forum format for a month and they won't care anymore.</div>

then surely they would be able to give everyone an option as to how they want to view the forum. No reason not to have both threaded and topic views if you are building your own site if that is what the users want.

There are times when I am thankful for the threaded view and times when I hate it.

Count me in on the vbulletin or phbb club. Not a yuku fan but I understand the issues with moving to another platform.

I'm not a fan of the way other boards have organized their threads. Threaded view makes reading threads a lot easier for me.

I think its uniqueness helps SPS. With that being said, I don't know if not having Yuku will break SPS either.

phpBB? Seriously? <div>
</div><div>If going for a paid script use Xenforo or IPBoard, but if going with a free option use MyBB. vBulletin took a major dip when Internet Brands bought them a year or so ago. And phpBB got passed by MyBB and SMF years ago.</div>

with threaded view. But I will be honest, outside of this board, I don't really search through other boards to know what they are using.

Most people dont like change period but the truth is, this forum is archaic. A lot of the people wanting to keep it the same will be happy with an updated board ONCE they get used to it. the posters are the reason for the uniqueness of sixpack, not the threaded view.

If you can force the topic view here on Yuku, you should do it to force people to try it.

Yuku is without a doubt the slowest and worst forum engine I use, threaded view is no big deal

Yuku is poorly laid out and SLOW. The threaded view has its benefits, but once you click on a topic, it's very hard to follow the flow of conversation because posts are listed chronologically and no one quotes correctly.

Also... Yuku is not mobile friendly. The board is terrible to view on a cell phone or tablet, and it's slowness is multiplied by 100 on a 3G network. Also, the posts don't show up correctly if you post from a cell phone or tablet (for me, at least).

I'd rather browse on my phone where it does not enable thread view, and that's a big problem. That's one of the things that keeps me from posting more.<div>
