I bet Central Florida is glad they left CUSA...

The fact that Mississippi Southern is about to go 0-12 in this year's CUSA makes it even more pitiful. I don't see how they ever recover from this. That championship win over Houston is a lifetime away when you finish dead last in a conference made up of North Texas, FAU, FIU, UT San Antonio and other nobodies.

Southern has several problems seems to me: (1) They're in CUSA and it has deteriorated drastically; (2) No better conference seems to be interested in them; (3) Sunbelt conference strange as it seems may actually be a better more cohesive conference than CUSA in many ways; (4) the emergence and elevation of programs such as South Alabama, Troy, ULL, Louisiana Tech, UAB has probably hurt their recruiting; (5) they don't have any money; (6) they're still the red haired stepchild in this state. All this with the ever changing landscape in college football will continue to hurt them.

Thanks for ruining bowl season.

They barely beat Temple and are a Rutgers win from the Sugar Bowl.

UCF also squeaked out a one possession victory against mighty memphis. They need to take these type teams and just match them up w/ the most unworthy bcs team available so UCF vs. Dooook (or does Duke even get in for being acc runner up since FSU going to Nat'l TItle?)

After this year, they're essentially right back in the old CUSA. But yeah, the sugar bowl is gonna be ugly again this year.

What stands out to me from what you posted is that ULL and South Alabama are hurting them: South Alabama because it is shutting off the Mobile area, which was a fertile ground for them. ULL, not only by getting some of those Lousiana kids, but also by getting some of those Mississippi kids.

But this still can't explain how things went south so fast. 10-2 to 0-12 and getting blown out every game.

Duke definitely won't get in unless they upset FSU, but Fresno or NIU will. NIU vs. UCF in the Orange Bowl?

shows just how bad Ellis Johnson was as head coach.

you cant lose enough talent to not sneak a few wins the next year from a 10-2 team

also shows just how smart Fedora was to leave. I honestly believe Austin Davis was more important to those southern teams than Fedora ever would have been. and Fedora knew it and got out while the getting was good.

should've never gotten rid of Bower...........

They returned nothing from that 10-2 team. Not that that team was all that good to begin with. As you say, they had Austin Davis and not much else. That team managed to lose to a 3-9 UAB team. But yeah, no excuse not to win at least a couple of games last year and this year. They've just had the perfect storm down there. No talent left, poor coaching, and some really bad luck too.
