I noticed that in one of the articles that I read as well. Surely, this just means that ESPN and DirectTV, Dish, etc just haven't worked out the details yet, right? There are still a lot of areas that AT&T doesn't reach such as Olive Branch, so I'm hoping that more details about providers will be released in the next few months.

I certainly hope that's the case and I'm sure it is. I have Dish, and one never knows ... they must have some sort of issue with ESPN because they STILL don't have ESPNU in HD. And I have no idea why ... they have other channels in HD that surely no one watches. It's got to be a contractual thing.

Dish has the Big 10 network as part of my package, and even the Brigham Young channel. It stands to reason that they would have the network of the biggest conference in the country. But I don't think the Longhorn Network is available.

It'll make it to the other carriers sooner or later. Most likely, 80% or more of them will have it done before the actual launch. UVerse was just the first one to complete the deal, thus using it as a marketing stunt...

Beauty of Uverse is that it works with watchESPN now too -- so you will have the SECnetwork on your mobile device through that provider(and many others by now).

“U-Verse is still relatively small, so I think basically the big ones are going to be Comcast, Time Warner and DirecTV. Dish Network will be tough because they are pulling out of the sports network market to save on cost.”The problem is how much the SEC Network will ask for per subscriber. The Big Ten Network and Comcast’s original deal was reported to be for $1.10 per subscriber in Big Ten country (it’s since gone down to somewhere between 70 cents and a dollar), and also put the channel on the basic cable package (that fact is why it took so long to get the deal done).

Comcast and Disney, which owns the ESPN networks, recently negotiated a 10-year “bundle” contract, which means Comcast is paying one amount for all the Disney networks. The SEC Network will exist outside of that deal, and will be negotiated as such. That’s a potential stumbling block.

It might take a year or two for them to pick it up. Start calling now..

I'm not really familiar with UVerse. Do they have high speed (cable speed) internet, or just DSL speeds?

Yep, the story I read said "AT&T is the FIRST to partner w/ ESPN-SEC so there will certainly be more. And yes, Comcast has WatchESPN now too, amazingly it worked on my phone in the Junction one Saturday this past season.

If Dish doesn't have it by startup time, I'll just switch to DirecTV. My 2-year contract for when I got the Hopper is over about then. I'd kinda hate to go back to cable. And I know nothing about UVerse.

I have u-verse Internet. It smokes DSL. I average about 14 download and 2 upload and it's much more reliable.

You can get up to 24mbps I believe on Uverse... My package runs at 12mbps consistently, and I've never found the need for any more speed. Of course, I'm using 2 500gb laptops, so it doesn't take long to fill one up if you get crazy with the dowloading...

Comcast (and all the other cable and satellite providers) knows they can't afford not to carry the SEC Network, at least in the SEC states or they'll lose half their customers. The SEC can almost name their price and the cable companies will have to come up with the money. There won't be any shortage of available options for anyone to watch the SEC Network.

For some reason Uverse for me would be like 30% more than Time Warner

maybe it's because I've negotiated my rates so much, but I pay a decent price, and get almost every channel, including 3D ones.

Though uverse isn't available at my house yet anyway, and the streets near me with it still use copper, they haven't run fiber which means it's not great. Plus I'd have to use DSL through AT&T, which is like 6MBps, vs. my 50 I get with TW.

To be fair, I'm totally spoiled with internet from work

Before I retired, my office at work (at NASA) was even faster than that, especially between centers. I could download a huge picture from the Hubble site at JPL almost instantly. Might've been what used to be (and may still be) termed Internet 2?

I believe we have multiple 10GB connections, but we're individually capped at 100MBps, since about 2,500 people work in the building. And we have to have 5-6 providers for redundancy, as we can never be offline. I actually work with OpenStack, which we created with NASA. They're doing some cool stuff.

I don't think there's any term for it though, we just have really high bandwidth. And yes, I actually have worked with some porn sites before, so I could go to their sites for legitimate work reasons. A large percentage of our customers were porn back in the early days.

I was just thinking the same thing. If Dish chooses not to carry the SEC network to save costs, they may as well just pull out altogether from any state south of Mason-Dixon line.
