my dad has severe dementia and my mother is in the hospital with broken pelvis (86 and 84) so my wife and I are taking care of my father. While trying to keep him occupied I'm finding westerns ( he never missed one back in the day) to watch. Gunsmoke, Bonanza, John Wayne you name it we're watching them. That is some of the dumbest crap I've ever seen. I can't believe some organization hasn't tried to shut any channel down that shows them. I loved them as a kid but now, What the Heck were they thinking?

What the hell do you have against Gunsmoke? Yes, most of the plots were simple, but still....
Most of this shat today, is superficial computer aided BS.

I don't really don't have anything against any of it, but it does seem weird the roles women played and always needed to be "saved" by the hero. Like I said I loved these shows as a kid but man they are hard to watch nowdays. Not really a fan of much of anything on TV now, mostly sports and 48 hrs type shows. Use youtube a lot also.

Those shows are great! I always try to watch during my lunch break. They always have a great story to them that bring out positive morals.

Sorry about your parents...,... (I will say Gunsmoke was on for 20 years.)
Keep your chin up... and support them, they need you.

This is another one of them situations as someone posted recently where we shouldn’t judge those who came before us by the standards of today.

I can say this with all sincerity...after going through this with my 2 parents and a mother-in-law in a short time you won't have to play but one show over and over again because they won't remember what they just watched, and you will be mindless zombie from sleep deprivation. Your life as you know it is over, and you will be in a living HELL! You will then look back and realize how dumb that post was! Just saying!

I’ve been going through some of this with my dad. I got tired of the western channel the other day and told him we were going to watch a good movie.

We sat there and watched Once Upon a Time in Hollywood from start to finish.

When it was over he said now that was a damn good movie.

I went through this with my mother. If I could go back and change something, I’d spend more time with her trying to bring out her quirkiness and her real personality. You’d get glimpses of it occasionally, but most of the time I was in denial of what was happening.

Exactly.

You cannot hold those shows to the standards today whether it’s the plot or just the characterizations. Hell, there’s shows from the 80s and 90s that might make people clutch their pearls today.

Cherish every moment you still have with them. I lost my mom to cancer today.
Man, I'm sorry! God bless you and your family. We are care givers for my Mother and it is tough at times because we've had to put our lifestyle on hold. With that said I can't imagine life after she's gone. We've lost my dad, my wife's mom and dad since 2020 so I feel your pain. We were blessed to have them in our lives for so long and we were very close emotionally with them.

Those shows were state of the art at the time. Think about their predecessors.

eta: my wife is hooked on Turner Classic Movies. You should see some of that ****.

If women would stop falling down when running from the bad guys they would need less saving.

It’s tough seeing a loved one go through dementia/Alzheimer’s. When the realization that my grandfather had dementia it hit us like a sledgehammer. I saw him almost every day of my life and worked with him and learned from him. To see him go from being so passionate about what he did and wanting to work and be active every day to just sitting around the house and losing all interest in everything was heartbreaking.

My grandmother had dementia and if she wasn’t in front of the TV at 6PM to watch Lawrence Welk reruns is was a major issue. Couldn’t remember anything else but 6PM there better be a TV nearby tuned in to that show. Mom currently has early/mid dementia. Not looking forward to when we lose her. Dementia kills the persons before it kills the person. Prayers for you. It sucks.

“Might”? Given the state of pc today, I'm surprised Friends and The Office are even still aired.
