such a large gap between the 'best case' and 'worst case' scenario this close to signing day.

Best case:
Hold onto Jones
Sign the Alexander Bros
Cord plays CFB
Fred Ross(?)

Worst case:
Jones flips
Miss on the Bros
Cord going to MLB

There are obviously 100 other scenarios that I didn't mention (Cory Smith to OSU, Toby Johnson, Greenlee from CA) but those are at the core. There's probably 10 spots different in the final 'on campus' rankings between those two, maybe more. I don't recall that in years past.

I made this exact same observation the other day. We are on the cusp of our very own "top 10 class" or a class that falls out of the top 25 (based on average/composite rankings).

It's sad that I'm totally flaccid about a top 12ish class potential.

ole miss's likelihood of a top 5 or better class just chaps my ***.

Haha I wouldn't let it bother you. If this class lands best case, it'll be about as good as I could expect a MSU staff to land.

Sandberg getting to campus is overall no. 1 in terms of success of this class. He's a program changing QB. Mullen's perfect system QB. But, that situation is unchanged until June.

So, for now, I think it's all based on Jones and Mix. With Smith a close third. I don't see the Alexander brothers as a big deal either way. Fred Ross, whatever. Toby Johnson would be a good get, but not a crushing blow if we missed.

I want to see something tangible for the Scott Austin situation too. We better have a prospect lined up there.

Sorry, but that's just stupid. Look at it this way, they are taking away from Bama/LSU/Auburn's wealth. Evening out the playing field for us. Ole Miss will never be elite, so we'll always have a 50/50 shot at beating them. To have real success we need other SEC teams to falter a little.

Disagree totally. We can't let Ole Miss get out in front of us in recruiting and

not worry about it.


Getting good players is 85% of winning or losing. If they out recruit us regularly, they will beat us regularly. This is my big fear about State fans not caring about recruiting. It is THAT important.

And the big loser if they do well us us. period. Not Bama or LSU...State. Don't fool yourself.

While I do sort of agree with that concept

it's just not happening that way. Bucky's pulling much of his class away from places like FSU, OKState, and, most importantly, us.

If ole miss really is pulling anything significant away from the big boys of the SEC, it's at the cost of them having better players on the field than us - and having a very good chance at continuing to beat us. I'd rather us be 5th in the west and them be 7th than us be 4th and them be 3rd.

a rat's *** about their recruiting class. It takes multiple good recruiting classes stacked to really get an elite team. And if they want to really elevate their team it would seem to me they need to focus a little more on the OL. For us, key guys like Chris Jones and Cord Sandberg fill the few real needs we have left on our team moving forward. Keeping guys like Jones in the fold and getting Sandberg to campus are the biggest ticket items we have to moving up a notch in the SEC over the next few years.

No, we have to improve our own recruiting. And that means beating Ole Miss for the Mississippi recruits we want.

Yeah I hear you but like I said, it's just a way of looking at it positively. Obviously I'd rather Ole Miss suck and lose, but no matter what they do, it shouldn't define what MSU does.

Rght. Exactly. Your post implied it is nothing to worry about and even a good

thing for MSU that Ole Miss recruits better, as they are bringing LSU and Bama to our level. That's wrong.

Johnson has NFL ability if he can get his knee back to where it was. Getting any of those guys would be big for this class.

As dumb as you as you- you did make a decent point earlier about not worrying about their class so much. Ole Miss is just one game out of 12- it's a little more important than the rest- but it is still 1 game

I implied that it was positive way of looking at the situation. Ole Miss recruiting well is not something to get your nuts twisted over though.

Absolutely. But if Dak is good enough to beat him out, that's great too. Sandberg is a high level prospect.

So was Tyler Russell...and all we heard was he was going to be the best QB we had the second he got on campus...start immediately...etc...we see how that turned out

I like Sandberg- but he'll wait his turn

Nobody with a brain said that. I said repeatedly that I saw him as a Jason Campbell type, probably wouldn't develop until later in his career. He still had baby fat on him when he showed up to campus.

You constantly harp on how Russell is not a Mullen-type QB, now you use him to back up your argument by him not playing more when he was younger. You're the bi-polar one, chump. Just like I busted you last week on the Rivals ratings, it's happening here again.

Back on point, Sandberg may have to wait his turn. If so, that means that Dak is doing some damn great things. I guess I'm just not convinced that he'll be all-world at this point. The difference in me is, I'm willing to give both options a shot, as a rational person would. You seem convinced that Prescott is the answer to all our problems. I'll believe it when I see it.

He would if Sandberg beats him out. But as big a recruit as Sandberg is and as much as we really need him, my best guess is that Prescott would win the job. He looked very good on most of his snaps later in the season. Truth is, no one really know which one will be the better QB in 2 years, but having both to choose from would be a very good situation.

I agree with the principle of what you are saying(Sandberg will wait his turn), but this sentence is untrue.

Sandberg runs an exact replica of the Mullen/Meyer offense right now. This is widespread in Florida because as soon as Meyer got down there, they started putting on coaching clinics hoping to get everyone to adopt their basic system, making the college learning curve much shorter for those kids. Many of the major schools in Florida still run this system. So, while there might be a short learning period for terminology, etc...Sandberg will be the first qb we've ever gotten that is "ready" to run this system out of the gate...

Gonna take a helluva man to beat out Prescott but worst case Sandberg will create a hardworking environment. I think Tyler's better be working harder than Prescott now but I don't see that happening. Prescotts is the real deal cause he makes those around him better and he's a winner a Sandberg should consider that and come learn how to work hard at this level from a team player.

Dude, are you 17ing with us? I agree that Dak is going to be good, but holy **** man, you've bumped up 3 or 4 older threads just to talk about how great Dak is.

You're either trying really hard to shove a joke up the Dak lovers' asses....or you just flat out love you some Dakota Prescott.
