I don't think the people in Crappy Valley fully understand the horror of what happened...

Listening to the Press conference, the Penn state sports beat writers were convinced that Joe Paterno getting fired was a vendetta by the Board of Trustees to get rid of him, and have been wanting to do so since 2004. Also, the students who rallied around Joe's house to urge him to stay.<div>
</div><div>They don't realize what happened is on par with mass murder....probably worse. If Jerry Sandusky (who is almost as beloved as Paterno in many Penn State fans' minds) had only committed serial killings, it wouldn't have been as bad. But what Sandusky did was destroy souls.</div><div>
</div><div>I think the Penn State board of trustees need to forfeit the rest of the football season, close down the program for 2013 and maybe even 2014, fire everybody in the Athletic department even marginally associated with the football program, and revoke the pensions of any assistant coaches who've been there long enough to know what was going on.</div>

They'll get a grasp on it when the legal process plays out, and all the lawsuits start raining down.

as asinine the NCAA is and how disconnected they seem at times, once the legal aspect of this kicks in and once the Department of Educations steps in to investigate, the NCAA will follow suit. Maybe the Big 10 will grow some balls and take some action. Heck all the other schools in the big 10 should refuse to travel to penn state to play. Just my opinion and I hope they get hammered.

like bowing to their idol who can do no wrong. This is a school with fans that thought they were going to lay an asswhipping on Alabama cause Alabama is just overhyped by ESPN due to the TV contract. <div>
</div><div>Here is a video of the cordial Penn State fans that are currently rioting in the streets and are so classy:</div><div>

</div><div>Turn speakers way down in the earshot of sensitive ears for that one.</div><div>
</div><div>I have always hated Penn State to the point where I was cheering like mad for Alabama over them.... and I hate Alabama too.</div>

It's hard for fans to think rationally about something they love, period.

Your fans would be trying to rationalize this if the shoe was on your foot, especially given the attachment they have to Paterno. It doesn't matter how wrong it is. It's a stage of denial. That's all. I can't say I think the reaction would be any different anywhere else if the situation were the same.

It's easy to see it from an outsider's perspective, but when you're emotionally invested and attached to a person and the university like they are, denial is the first reaction.
