I find it ironic that the M-Braves

are opening up with the Jackson Generals. Of course, these Generals are from Jackson, TN.

I guess minor league teams don't own the rights to their own team name?

Not that I mind, I think it's cool.

That is why we are the Mississippi Braves, I'm guessing. Either way, the teams aren't named the same.

Is their manager, Jim Pankovits used to manage the old Jackson Generals in Jackson, MS.

Also, they have a guy that used to pitch for the US Military Academy- Nick Hill.

If the Jackson (MS) Generals still existed, the Jackson, Tennessee, club would be guilty of trademark infringement. They may have even infringed if the team that moved to Corpus Christi had kept the Generals nickname. Trademark law can be tricky.<div>
</div><div>Since they don't, there is no trademark to protect or infringe upon.

...did not move to Corpus Christi, but to Austin, Texas. Nolan Ryan purchased the Texas Ranger affilate, then moved them to Austin.

The biggest mistake ever made in Jackson baseball was loosing the Jackson Mets. They had great teams, players, and ownership. Once the Mets left, the Generals never caught on and then the city with it's wonderful leadership would never improve the stadium. The M-Braves are doing well and should do well because of the Atlanta Braves being the south's team. Trustmark Park is also a very nice facility in which to watch games.

their attendance is starting to drop. I'm afraid that in 5 years or so, they could be gone. I mean people are bitching about having to spend $50 TOTAL (food/drinks/tickets) to go to a game with their family of four. I mean come on people, $50 for a family of four with food and drinks is a damn good deal. Why don't y'all try going to a MLB game with four and tell me how that works out. Hell the tickets alone would cost you $100. People just don't know when they have a good thing going.

to support a AA baseball team in the long term. Look at the other AA cities. Almost all of them are either in larger metro areas or are struggling. What Jackson needs is a Class A team, but the problem there is there aren't any other Class A cities anywhere near here.

</div><div>Jackson, TN is much smaller than Jackson, MS and the Huntsville Stars are in a metro area comparable in size to Jackson (though Huntsville is growing faster than Jackson). Jackson is just a bad sports town and the dispersal of the population to suburbs hurts attendance. If you live in Madison, Ridgeland, or Clinton you have to drive through Jackson to get to the game.</div>

The Corpus Christi team is technically our old Mets/Generals franchise. Ryan bought them and moved the team to Round Rock and became the Express for several years. Their attendance was so high that Nolan moved in a Triple A team he owned to become the Round Rock Express, a Rangers affiliate. The Double A team became the Corpus Christi Hooks and are still an Astros affiliate.

They've tried to move and to sell the team in the past few years. Huntsville is comparable to Jackson population-wise, but the demographics are very different. Also, both of those teams draw less than half what the rest of the league draws. The Braves are probably going to be OK at least for a while, but I wouldn't be at all surprised to see one or both of those franchises in different cities soon.

As you mention, the location of Trustmark Park is an issue too. It's a 30 minute drive for a lot of people to get there. I wish they could have just razed Smith-Wills and put Trustmark there, but I understand that for a lot of reasons that wasn't possible.

are more than enough people in the Rankin/Madison/Hinds county area to support the MBraves. It's just people are too freaking cheap. They want everything for free. They ***** about paying $50 for a family of 4 to go to a game and buy food and drinks.

but also, I think the weather is factor in Mississippi as well because during it gets freaking hot during July and August and it can be miserable- no one wants sit out in that. I think that is part of the reason why college baseball is so popular in the south.

But to the M-Braves credit- they've added Pizza Shack and Chik-Fil-A, and they had some survey people at the MSU/USM game trying to see what did and didn't work. They are also advertising pretty well, so they are at least trying.

I do wish that they had put the stadium in downtown Jackson on Capitol St. That would have helped the city out and it would be a more centralized location.

Last year, I thought the M-Braves should have done a better job with in between inning entertainment- that's the kind of crap that minor league teams have to do to keep people coming out.

you're right about the weather, but I just can't understand how someone that grows up in Mississippi their whole life can think a night game is too hot. I mean I agree that it gets warm, but you're looking at night time temps in the 80s or so. Someone from Minnesota probably can't 17 with that, but if you're from Mississippi and think that's hot you're and dubmass.

As a member of B.A.T. (Braves Advisory Team), I can pass on suggestions you might have for improving the experience at Trustmark Park. We will not be moving the stadium to Jackson, so you might leave that suggestion off.

As for support, we get very little of it from Jackson. Might be due to disposable income levels there. Might be due to some deep seeded jealousy from Pearl getting the new Stadium and the Braves.

Todd, they need to add a little more. The restuarant in right is pretty good, but they could have better food. Good to see they have the pizza shak now, but you can't get a freakin bratwurst there. That should be mandatory at a minor league park.

Stadium downtown would have made too much sense. Pearl is still nearly a 30 minute drive from where we are, but it not bad and it wouldn't be any different for most if they had put it downtown.

I don't make it out there nearly as much as I'd like, but I sure hope we don't lose them.

with Con Maloney being the possible exception. I would be willing to bet that the Jackson Senators fans mainly came from outside the Jackson city limits.

We did have bratwurst in the "Beer Garden" Concession Stand in Year 1 (2005). We also have 37 various imports back then too. Had to adjust menus to get best bang for buck.

I'll see if Bratwurst is feasible cost wise.

What does everyone think about the Cafe? Could it be improved by making it more like tne one in Atlanta...High Tops on row 2 behind the roll up doors maybe? How about Cafe Menu? Service? Waiters? Waitresses? Attire?
