Here is a GR8 new thread that EVERYONE will love because there is NO wrong answers just an open discussion in regards to the HAWKS.

From the most wild and crazy ideas TWOOOO the more realistic. How do YOU see IOWA getting back on top? I mean there must be 1/2 dozen threads calling for TnT to be done??? Is this realistic is one question? Where do YOU turn to fill their shoes?

AGAIN NO wrong answers, lets have some open discussions. BEST case scenario if you want? Craziest ideas, ANYTHING GOES!!!

I SIR Iron Hawk will of course start us off-

1st) I do not see a AWESOME candidate for Head coach to replace Tom IF we are being honest!?!? MANY names are thrown out, such as DAKE for example. Once you dig a little deeper though. It appears he and most others are not available or even looking??? Also, what kind of money would we need to draw in a TOP guy? With TAYLOR reported to be getting a cool MIL. Would it even make sense to use that kind of money on a head coach?

2nd) It has been said that BOB's $$$$ goes if TnT go!?!?!? <<<THIS alone is a B1G deal!!!!

3rd) Also reported is REVENUE SHARING is starting/ has started???? F*** st is said to be getting a cool 1.2 MIL. ? I would believe IOWA should be getting at least the same if not more, but have not seen anything???

4) a B1G question I have is. Are TnT flexible in their coaching rolls? Meaning are they open to having NEW blood come in and at least bring NEW ideas to the table? It always seems that IOWA is lagging behind in, TRAINING, TECHNIQUES, STRATEGIES , RECRUITING etc....

ALL that being said, I don't see a REALISTIC replacement at this time? Unless a complete melt down takes place these next few weeks, I would rather see IOWA BUILD from what is there as long as TnT are open to some changes.

MANY times it has been discussed, moving TERRY to head coach of the HWC? I ASSuME that it must be a $$$$ issue as for why it has not been done? Is it possible with the REVENUE SHARING to use that money to either get this done, or to replace BOB's $$$$ and use his cash to get it done???

That would free up one spot where i would try to get KemDawg. Many like KemDawg, I always thought he was a great technician, obviously being an IOWA guy, this does not seem to be a far reach.

MORNINGSTAR is said to be a GR8 recruiter and I would like to see a position opened for him to be HEAD RECRUITER/ COACH. IF IOWA could add that position? That would add another spot where MAYBE you can look for a B1Gger "reach"/ name? Someone like NOLF for example?

The longer term goal would be to bring in SUPERMAN LEE especially if he can go out an get the Olympic GOLD!!!!

1. Cut ties with the Brands. They are legends but the sport has passed them by. It's time to retire.
2. Get a young head coach who understands the new way the sport is taught and run. Nolf, Dake, etc. These guys will come to Iowa. It's one of the premier jobs in the sport. If they ever want to be a head coach in NCAA wrestling, they will never get a better opportunity than to go to Iowa.
3. Bring Spencer in as an assistant when his career as a competitor is over. I don't think Spencer really has a head coach personality, but he would be a great guy to have in the room and for recruiting.
4. Do it before the 2027 and 2028 recruiting classes get in the room. These are pretty strong classes. They will benefit from training under the new coach for their entire careers.

You can't allow the program to be held hostage by one donor dead set on keeping "his" guy at the helm even though it is setting the team back more and more every year.

I was told definitively by an insider here that Dake has no interest in being a coach, and to cross him off the list.

Spencer said he wanted to be an AD. Has he actually said he wants to be a coach?
I have no inside information on anything, but to me, Spencer's personality seems more compatible with being an AD than a coach, especially a head coach. He could certainly be an assistant coach while he waits for the AD or assistant AD position to open for him, though.

Who are these people saying that Morninstar is a great recruiter? What are his big recruiting wins? Taylor has just about gotten better recruits in his first year than Morningstar has in the totality of his stint at Iowa. Terry was the reason for SL. SL was the reason for AD. Maybe we can give Bassett as a win for Moningstar, but that fell thru.

This is and has been the question - for what 12-14 years? This question must be answered first.

Outside of being on the forefront of new facilities, there hasn't been much in the form of openness, so I can guess what the real answer will be.

Dresser? Who else could it be. he's older then TnT

Correct. I heard that from a very reliable source. On the outside it makes no sense as he's getting up there in age. It could be that he's the figure head in charge grooming an assistant coach to take over. Like it or not, KD has done a good job rebuilding Iowa State and their NIL is in a good place.

stop it. maybe Metcalf but no one has reached out to Dresser to replace Brands... Beating Brands one season makes you think he has done a nice job???

1) would not be against moving on IF there is some "path" forward that makes any sense? That is the B1G question that really would need to be answered!

2)I like the idea of NOLF, Dake seems to be a NO? Does NOLF (or anyone we can get) move the needle? I agree about it being one of the best jobs in the sport, but also a LOT of pressure!!!

3) Need to KEEP SUPERMAN LEE!!!!

4) Yes some GR8 recruits to build with , but also the worry they could bolt!!!!

NOT sure if BOB is holding the program hostage or there is some reason why his money would walk if TnT are gone? In any case, we all know that $$$$$ is very important these days and can not under estimate this!!!!

Back channel calls are being made. I heard a call was placed to a certain B12 coach about his interest in the Iowa job and he said not interested. It wasn't DT.
NOT sure if this was a joke? but Arizona st, Iowa st, Oklahoma st, west Virginia, Missouri, N Dakota st, Air Force, Maybe the joke is Cal Baptist??? There are a few other teams but WHO could it possible be????

It depends on who gets hired, but if it's someone like Nolf, I can't see any high level recruit seeing what Cael and DT have done, and seeing Nolf come in and them saying "nah, sorry, but I came here for hand fighting and 4-1 SV1 matches and being injured for nationals every year".

I agree he's done a great job. But there have been times when they have a bunch guys get hurt or under perform at nationals as well.

If it keeps Bob in the fold, you name Tom the GM of Iowa wrestling. One of Tom’s responsibilities will include fundraising.

As a side-gig, Tom can also raise funds for the HWC.

If you keep TnT

New assistants
New HwC HC
You keep Bob’s money this way.

If TnT are open to being involved still
New Iowa staff
TnT to HwC
The HwC is clearly on the up (a little contradictory to my previous point) but Terry has always been a great freestyle coach

option 3 clean house, hire a new age coach (Dake/Nolf/JB/etc), get a big initial investment for assistants
hope you can keep Bobs money.

Mr. Nicolls has stated he’s a supporter of the Brands first. And a supporter of Iowa wrestling second. If no Brands, then no more nickels from Nicolls.

Assistant coach isn’t really a path to AD. I haven’t heard him express interest in ANY coaching.

Last year was the first time in Dresser’s eight years his team finished in the top ten at NCAA’s. He’s had one National Champ in his tenure. Stop trolling

Yes. Because when I think fundraising, I definitely think Tom Brands. He’s really good at relationships and boot licking. Right up his alley. 😂

How many different national champs has TNT had over those same 8 years?
