I guess this A&M crap really has legs.

I was hoping it was all just ********. Just when we're poised to make a move in the conference, we get more obstacles. F you Notre Dame. If you would have just joined the Big 10, then Nebraska doesn't leave the Big 12 and this domino effect doesn't happen.

Report: Texas A&M considering SEC

Texas Gov. Rick Perry says his alma mater, Texas A&M, and the SEC are discussing the Aggies possible future membership in the league, according to a report in the Dallas Morning News.

Perry was asked by reporters from the paper on Wednesday about recent swirling speculation surrounding the move.

"I'll be real honest with you. I just read about it the same time as y'all did. ... As far as I know, conversations are being had. That's frankly all I know. I just refer you to the university and the decision makers over there."

Perry once served as a yell leader for the university, whose president, R. Bowen Loftin, recently acknowledged that there was "uncertainty" regarding the university's future membership in the Big 12.

Texas A&M released this statement to multiple media outlets: "President Loftin is committed to doing what is best for Texas A&M not only now, but also into the future. We continue to have wide-ranging conversations regarding all aspects of the university, including both academics and athletics."

Big 12 commissioner Dan Beebe is taking Texas A&M's possible move "very seriously."

"I've been talking to a number of people." Beebe told the Austin American-Statesman. "Obviously, there are a significant number of Aggie supporters who are interested in going in that (SEC) direction.

"There's a huge risk if an institution leaves its geographic proximity and rivalries. In the long run, it can create a lot of problems."

Texas A&M discussed membership in the league last summer with the Big 12's future in doubt, but university leaders chose to remain in the Big 12.

Texas A&M leaders have expressed concern about the Longhorn Network's effect on the longterm stability of the Big 12, and rumors of renewed talks between the university and the conference have persisted in recent weeks.

In fact, it could help us if we wind up in a division with A&M, Missouri, Arkansas, LSU, Mississippi & Vandy.I really think if we add 2 to the west, there's a good chance Vandy would move to the West and Bama/Aub would move to the East. This would keep the Bama vs UT & Auburn rivalries, as well as the Aub-UGA rivalry and also let Auburn get back to playing UF every year, which is another pretty big rival for Auburn. In any case, no matter what happens, it's not like the SEC is going to get any tougher. I'd be OK with playing A&M and Missouri every year and playing UF, UGA, UT and USC a little less often.

Even in a situation where we trade out Bama and Auburn, we will still have one SEC game instead of another easy win. I think we have the perfect number right now. You only need two conference wins to go to Birmingham if you win your out-of-conference games.

I was assuming the SEC would want to stay at 8, but if they do go to 9, then yeah that's not good.

the big NCAA meeting scheduled in a few weeks to discuss this LH network thing, because if they leave it will cost them immediately and they are having trouble paying thier bills already

Texas A&M has been threatening to leave for the SEC for years -- even before all this talk in recent years about the Big 12 dissolving and now the LHN. To hear an Aggie talk, the SEC is BEGGING them to go to the SEC because of TAMU's academics, traditions, and of course football.

But Texas is the 10,000 lb. gorilla that will do whatever the hell it wants. I just don't see them budging for anything.

F you Texas. First you steal our defensive coordinator and now you're shitting all over the conference that allowed you to become as big as you are, and f'ing us in the process. Notre Dame and Texas can both [Kenny Powers] tongue-kiss my butthole [/Kenny Powers].

so we can't tell who'd end up in the east. Based upon past decisions, don't underestimate Slive's drive to pacify UA whilejobbingMSU.

i think it's all positioning by other big 12 schools to limit the LHN in as big a way as possible. if the LHN becomes a nonfactor then all will stay the same. if it doesn't...then it hits the fan.

Bama an Auburn will stay in the West and we will add two teams to each division or create 4 divisions of 4 teams each.

16 is the popular number witha lot of Internet speculation, but it just doesn't make much sense in the real world. If you go to 16, you're either going to wind up with essentially almost 2 separate conferences or 1 very unstable one. Not to mention the incremental revenue the smallest 2 of the 4 you'd add would be tremendous, about $20,000,000 per year each. Not many schools are going to add that much incremental revenue.

I don't even think the number is what's important. We won't add A&M because we want to get to 14 or 16, we'll add them because they are an attractive school and more importantly give us a foot in Texas. I don't know that there's another school that's mentioned that we would add for their own sake. If we get A&M we'll add a VT or FSU or someone who adds enough value to justify getting us to an even number but would've been ignored otherwise.

If we do something like that we will have strenghtened what we have without building something too volatile AND we'll be in a position toact if the CFB landscape really does shift towards the 16-team conferences.
