Holy ****. I have been telling people for years Alamo Drafthouse needed to move to downtown Starkville. I'm assuming we have some circles that overlap, and they're restating my dream as fact.

Unless it's real which would be fvcking awesome.

It's a movie theater that serves beer, burgers, nachos, to you during the movie, but it has a cool atmosphere too. Sometimes they might show retro-movies at 'Arnold-Night' where it's only Terminator playing. People can yell, throw popcorn at the screen, whatever.

The big ones out in Austin have multiple screens. That would be the only drawback I could see. I think they'd only have one screen at the State Theater to show. Doesn't seem like much revenue coming in compared to the overhead.

I really don't know anything about Alamo Drafthouse. Personally, I wish the owners of the Lyric in Oxford would take it over and run it. But I suppose if the choice is between sitting there empty and rotting, and it being an actively used and well-run theater, I'll take the latter.

...and with the cool comes the wierd. tried to take my kids to a first run movie there. i think it was one of the Ice Age movies. they refused to let us in at 5:30 pm because the movie would run past 6:00. apparently, those that like to go to colorado on special days also love to sit in movie theaters and watch first run kids movies.

This type business was my suggestion for a new Starkville business back around Christmas in that thread we had. When I lived in Birmingham in mid to late '80's there was one called "The Pitcher Show" as in beer pitcher. They sold wine and beer and seating was eclectic, i.e. some couches, some small tables w/ 2 or 3 chairs, some booths, etc. I don't remember anything about food. It was 2nd run type movies and old classics i.e. Rocky Horror, Animal House, etc. It was a fun time then and could be now if done right.
