but we are 8-18 in FG's this year. Just a horrible stat. 11 games - 8 field goals.

It is unreal how bad our special teams have been. They have caused huge momentum shifts in several games, and might have cost us a few games.
Auburn: missed field goal (if made, AU has to be trying for a TD at the end instead of us thinking they are setting up for a FG)
A&M: we get all of the momentum..... kickoff return for TD
LSU: Missed FG in the second half, game turned right then
Bama: missed chip shot, momentum shift.
Special Teams MUST be addressed in the offseason because there is no excuse for us to be this bad.

Our special teams as a unit, I believe, is the worst single unit I have ever seen out of a MSU team. I know Croom had some very bad offenses and there was a D towards the end under JWS (2003, maybe?) that was terrible, but I'm pretty sure 2013 special teams is the worst unit I have ever seen at MSU.

I don't see how Mullen has the time to truly coach the special teams because he is also coaching the offense. If he really wants to coach the special teams he needs to hire a competent offensive coordinator to free him up to spend more time recruiting and evaluating those guys.

Just as bad is that we've had 3 blocked kicks and 1 blocked punt.

And our special teams has given up 2 safeties on one of those blocked bunts and a missed snap by our kicker who was trying to punt.

I know

I keep harping on the offenses woes, but the biggest travesty is the ST. To not have a capable kicker on a SEC squad is beyond pathetic. That is just not doing your job.

If we take a look at each of the major Special Teams categories...

Kickoff Returns - 21.8 yds/return (7th in the SEC)
Punt Returns - 1.5 yds/return (14th in the SEC)
Punting - 37.4 net yds/punt (8th in the SEC)
Field Goals - 8/14 (14th in the SEC)
Kickoff Coverage - 39.2 net yds/kick (12th in the SEC)

I couldn't find punt coverage, but my point is that while everyone is focusing on our field goal kicking(rightfully so) since it's the worst in the country, we're pretty damn bad all around. In our best statistical category, we're middle of the pack in the conference. Once again, inexcusable in year 5. Absolutely inexcusable

This is where my main blame on the special teams is for Mullen. I won't blame the special team's coach for a kicker missing field goals, but multiple blocked kicks just shows we have bad blocking schemes. That is absolutely coaching. I think everyone is in agreeance that Mullen needs to give that duty up.

I went to a practice last year and he never once looked over there at special teams. Heck there wasnt anyone over there. They just practiced a few kicks/snaps and then they waited until practice was over
