UK fan here.. I don't think the reason UK hates Duke is the fact that Duke challenges, and is a threat to, UK's success. Duke is an established program known for the quality product they put out on the floor on a yearly basis. Most fans can agree on that. I think the thing that gets under UK's skin, as well as everyday non-Duke fans skin, are the clips below...

The fact that this is accepted and taught at Duke, is what really gets people upset.

Grayson does the head flip way too much I will admit that as a fan, but come on man. We TEACH IT? What kind of **** is that? You can't be serious. Look at Lebron James, the worlds best player....he literally flops more than anyone I've seen in my life. Selling the call has been a strategy for a long time. Does that make it right? Hell no. I think it's toxic for the game. But seriously don't come here stating that we TEACH flopping. That's absolutely ridiculous man.

Keep watching the games. The more people who watch, the higher the ratings. The higher the ratings, the more likely our games will be telecast. Thank you so much.
Duke is hands down the most watched team in the champions classic. Isn't UK supposed to be the "face of college bball"? Lol.

Yes, I would say its fair to say that UK and Duke are the 2 main faces of college basketball. Particularly when it comes to continued success and recruiting.

And yes, I wholeheartedly believe that flopping is emphasized at Duke. It is a very useful strategy when you can get away with it.

I love my duke brethren!
Don't you mean "Puke"? Some quotes from you on Duke-MSU thread on RR:

"Great flop by gayson! Almost textbook"

"I hate their gym. I wish an opposing player would go over and punch a fan that taunts these kids"

"I can't wait for the 30 for 30 in 40 years titled Puke U; how duke and nobody else changed the landscape of college basketball. Coach k will still be an ESPN anchor with bobby knight"

In response to comment that Grayson Allen is going to have serious neck issues later in life with all these fake head snaps: "From that or slurping k and his fellow puke brethren"

"Where are the duke suits at I haven't seen an orange aura glowing brightly from the puke bench yet"

"Really hoping at halftime they show a classic duke skit. Maybe season cancelled or the classic titantic skit. If not hoping they have a water bottle flipping contest and they water bottle busts open while the puke players are warming up"

What's even more sad is most of the posters over there ACTUALLY wish harm on Grayson and not just Grayson but other players and coaches. So sad and disgraceful a fan base stoops that low over essentially what is nothing more than a game.

Really do think they like duke deep down, that's all they talk about. Wall2boogie is in love with the duke players.

They want to be Duke's rival oh so bad. The problem is that most Duke fans pull for UK when they play unc. Now in my opinion no one ever pulls for their rival and before some UK fan pops up and says "we always pull against Duke." It's got to go both ways. So in a couple of weeks when UK plays unc ( Dec. 17th ) come check this board out and see who here is pulling for unc. OFC

The UK fans who say they always pull against Duke are not true loyal UK fans. That means they pull for UL or Indiana when they are playing Duke. Definitely not a true loyal U.K. Fan. Speaking of Indiana, they are off to a good start. Let's hope it stays that way.

Go IU!

when Duke is playing and u go to a restaurant here in KY, every single TV is on the Duke game and the haters are watching. They watch Duke as much as they watch U.K. Nice to know haters are always watching our games.

Yes, that is true; however, if a Duke game is on anywhere in America, generally 'haters' are watching. Duke is the most polarizing program in the nation - there is no middle ground. They are either loved or hated.

Kentucky fans are passionate about college basketball as a whole - there is a 10 page thread on the IU - UNC game - does that mean they are obsessed with IU and UNC? No, it means they are obsessed with college basketball as a whole.

Duke is a great program with arguably the most talented team in the country - yes they (we) are going to discuss the team ad nauseam.

That's why our ratings are so high. Duke is a drug to them. They can't live without us. They are begging for Duke to be their rivals and it ain't happening.

If I was a fan of the most winningest program in college basketball history, I wouldn't care about some program who I consider less than mine. That's just me.

Interesting - I'm fairly confident that outside of the Duke - UNC game, the majority of top-rated regular season / tournament games include Kentucky.

Uhhh... no. You guys have like seven threads about Duke on your first page at Rafters. On the national board the UK guys jump on Duke like football players jump on blonde cheerleaders. IU is a rival, UNC is a rival... but you guys are absolutely obsessed with Duke. You hate Duke for The Shot, you hate K because he is held in such high regard whereas Cal catches so much flak, you hate Duke because we have the image of doing it the right way while you have the image of being an NBA factory... you guys are INSANE about Duke.

UK is certainly near the top of the list, though. Duke is consistently the most watched program. I'll dig up some stats for you (I'll just post them here with an edit).

Of the top ten watched NCAA title games in modern history, 3 were Duke games, 1 was a UK game. There is more.

In 2013-14, Duke was half of five of the 10 most watched games on TV leading up to the tournament. UK was in 2 of them.

http://www.sportsmediawatch.com/201...numbers-for-every-game-of-the-2013-14-season/

In 2016, Duke was in three of the top four watched games of the season. UK was in two.

I cannot speak for the national board but the Rafters first page currently looks like this:

5 threads on IU related topics.
5 threads on UNC related topics.
3 threads on UL related topics.

umm 0 on Duke.

The point is - there are more UK fans than any other CBB fanbase. The majority of these fans are obsessed with CBB to an unhealthy extent.

With that being said, yes they discuss Duke obsessively. Sure - they are the top program with us right now - why would they not? They are on TV a lot, their coach / program is glorified by the media, we fight over the same recruits, etc.

And likewise:

In the 2014-2015 season of the top 10 games: Kentucky was in 4 Duke was in 3.

http://www.sportsmediawatch.com/201...4-2015-regular-season-espn-cbs-fox-fs1-nbcsn/

Kentucky V Notre Dame was the most watched CBB in cable TV history:

Well that is until Kentucky Wisconsin broke that record right after:

Both programs carry their respective weight in TV ratings.

Sorry, I guess I was thinking of yesterday. Right now, there is 1 Duke thread on the front page of Rafters (the Allen thread.) The MSU/Duke game thread, the "3 stars out" thread, the "Duke cheats by playing at home so much" thread, the "Sign in the Crazies" thread, the OTHER MSU/Duke thread, and the "Duke Win Streak" thread have all fallen a page or two since the IU/UNC fun.

As you said, yes, UK fans discuss Duke obsessively. I think I am more often thrown by how they struggle to say anything nice about Duke or Duke players. It is bizarre. Every Duke player sucks (they were just TRASHING Kennard there for a bit) K sucks Duke sucks Duke fans suck etc etc etc. I don't think Duke fans have the same issue. Here, watch:

Tyler Ulis was a perfect, perfect player.
Boogie is a really good guy.
John Wall is a fantastic player.
Cal is generally a good guy who really cares about his players.
Kentucky is the top program in history.

But UK fans have such venom for Duke... it is truly bizarre.

Eh, that was just because of THAT Kentucky team. Everyone was interested in the streak. That is the only season like that. If you look over time, it is Duke, and then everyone else.

Case in point?

"Overall, (the) Duke/Wisconsin (National Title Game) ranks as the highest rated and most-watched basketball game (college or pro) since Game 6 of the 1998 NBA Finals (22.8, 35.9M)."

Missed the Allen flopping thread - apologies.

Look here is what I'm getting at: Yes, there is lots of venom and just downright unwarranted hatred from UK fans towards Duke that is unfortunate. But, there is also that same venom and hatred from CBB fans as a whole towards Duke. That's just who you guys are - people hate your success and what all that entails.

Again, UK has the most fans and arguably the most passionate - given that, there is lots of hatred spewed towards Duke.
