I may get hammered, but Brady seems so damn overrated.

The dude dumps off about 70% of his passes. Think about how Patriots didn't miss a beat when Cassel took over. We've seen how Cassel's done at KC.

How do you think Brady would do outside the Hoody "system?"

You serious? Wtf he's missing his main weapon in Gronkowski. How would any other team do without their most effective and number 1 option on offense outside of the QB position? Ravens without Ray Rice? 49ers without Frank Gore? etc

Well they had a good record with cassel, but they also missed the playoffs and were not nearly as explosive on offense.

If being overrated means having three rings and a supermodel wife- I wish I was overrated.

If anything, I think he was kind of held back by the Patriots not having great outside WR's to compliment their slot WR's, TE, and H-backs. He would be scary if they get that Cardelle Patterson or whatever his name is from UT. The NFL better pray that they don't trade up in the draft to get him.

Oh man Patterson is so sick I can't believe the draft board has Justin Hunter over Patterson. I would take Patterson as a top 10 pick. He's that elusive.

A supermodel wife who (it should be noted) makes significantly more money than Tom Brady does in the average year...

She has made $163mil JUST in modeling the past 5 years...

Tom Brady is 35. The NFL is a young guys' league....

When you get to the playoffs, everybody is a good, smart player, and in this day and age, youth beats age every time. Even Ray Lewis- he's the heart and soul of the Ravens, but I didn't see him making too many plays out there yesterday. Pernell McPhee had a bigger impact yesterday than he did.

Oldler guys can win you some games in the regular season, but when the playoffs come their performance falls off (or the younger guys step it up). I first saw this in the 1992 Super Bowl, when the "experienced" Buffalo Bills got hammered by the "young, inexperienced" Dallas Cowboys. In 2007, you saw Brett Favre get old in overtime, with temps below 0. Last week, you saw Peyton Manning not able to step up his game. Last night, Tom Brady was getting passes batted down, plus he wouldn't run for a first down when he had the chance (he would've definitely made it in his younger days).

You wanna know who wins the Super Bowl? Just check the teams' average age.

Cassel had some impressive stats that year, especially since he was thrown in from the backup role (I know, it was the first game). I just believe the Patriots have a "gimicky" offensive that makes Brady look that much better and I use Cassel as my example.

Don't read me wrong, I think Brady is a damn good QB.

do I think Brady is an elite QB, yes, but when they compare him to Montana, that is where I draw the line. I know when people compare QB's they bring in all kinds of stats, winning pcts, leadership, arm strength..etc.etc. Brady is a good QB he wasn't just doing dump passes when Moss was there. Marino was a great release QB and has no rings. Brees is probably the most accurate QB, Peyton is probably the smartest QB and Montana is a great hodgepodge of them all.

Brady is not the GM or coach. He doesn't sign players or draft them and the Patriots are in desperate need of an outside receiver. They will get one before next season starts. Probably two of them. That's why you are seeing so many dump passes. They are an "execute" team. They tell everyone "I'm going to beat you with some midget receivers and no name no pay RB's and you can't do anything about it". They dropped passes on key plays and had 3 turnovers in the 2nd half and lost their best DB so it just wasn't their day. Congrats to the Ravens.

I was a little surprised by this when I saw it as well. However, Hunter is more of a pure receiver and can be a teams #1 while Patterson is a big play guy that is not quite as reliable. I'd love to have either. I could be wrong but I view it almost as a Torrey Smith, Anquan Boldin type thing. Torrey Smith scores alot and has a lot of big plays, but Anquan is the #1 on that team and is the one who runs the good routes and makes tough plays.

Someone tell me if I am totally off base there.

I TOTALLY agree with this statement and this probably would have been a better way for me to start this thread.

But honestly I don't think he does very well, unless he finds another coach/system he meshes (so perfectly) with. As you stated, Cassel came in and wowed the league with his year holding the reins, then went on to stink it up in KC; so I think it is safe to say that the coach and system are the determining factor here and not Tom Brady.

Having said that, he runs that offense better than a lot would. Could he be replaced? Probably. Would they have as much success? Doubt it.

What the...?? Brady is in the conversation for best ever. The talent level on the Patriots is down, in my opinion, from what it has been in the past. You have to have the supporting cast, but ****, they were still in the NFL Championship. 3 Super Bowl titles, 2 more appearances, God only knows how many playoff victories. And he's getting up there in age.

Put the meth pipe down, son. And get a new username, something without 'Goat' in it. You need something with 'Coach' in it.

Their talent-level on offense has always been above average and that's about all.. except for the Randy Moss year and even then he was much closer to the end of his career than the beginning. Wes Welker dropped some key passes last night (again). He had a chance to ice the Super Bowl last year and didn't. He had a chance to extend 2 drives last night and dropped balls. The one in the 3rd quarter was very likely leading to points had he made a pretty routine catch.
