I miss sucking at football. Saturdays were spent with no expectations and reveling at the misfortune of my non State friends. But this, this is a new burden. While Lee Corso is not on my TV, I have a feeling that I haven’t felt since the early 2020’s. I actually care, and it cuts me to the quick. Have you all been this way for the last two years? If so, you have my deepest condolences. I’m hoping this old dark friend that is washing over my soul will be vanquished by the effervescent light of a win against the gays next week. But until then, I long for the days of Arnett. not really

I'm not back yet. The transfer portal and our last two seasons have really damaged my enthusiasm level. At no point yesterday did I think State would win. I thought they had a chance, sure, but I was basically wondering how they would find a way to lose.

Maybe I should try Prozac?

If this first month hasn’t gotten you to buy back in then it’s gonna be hard to ever win you back.

Winning an SEC game would go a long way toward winning me back.

Maybe we should define "buy back in" though I've enjoyed the games, and I will always support the team. They show a lot of effort, and I want them to win. I just don't fully believe in their ability to win.

I also don't know much about the individual players like I used to in the days when we had them around for a few years. The transfer portal has definitely sucked a lot of fun out of the game for me.

What a pathetic loser
17 off, Mr. "That one hurt to lose". You don't get to judge someone based on how they feel during a ballgame.

We get to judge if you admit you’re a giant loser. Why watch the games if you don’t believe we can win?

Some of it age, but portal/NIL definitely shifted, and the rest are some bad decisions made by our leadership.

HOWEVER

This new era has kinda opened the door for anyone to compete because there are no more bulldozing dynasties like Saban’s Alabama.

But we blew it last night. And I’m fine. I was fine after ASU. I will always follow, but I’m nearly completely detached from the outcome and it’s all just fun for me. I’m sure if we ever make a serious run, I’ll get more invested.

We will see how we react after this little mini run or whatever. Got a feeling aTm will be ugly.

Well lemme tell you, as long as that silver tongued devil is coach in oxfart, we effectively do suck at foosball.

Lucky for us, volleyball and soccer are uplifting our school pride.

Seriously? That's a stupid question. I've been following the team for many decades. I've earned the right to expect the worst.

Yeah I do.
Grow up. The fact that I didn't cry in my cereal this morning does not make me a loser. Being in control of one's emotions is the opposite of being a loser.

Why? What have you seen from this football team (not last year’s, because it’s not the same team) that makes you think the A&M game is gonna get ugly? Here’s what I’ve heard so far this year: “USM has a good chance to beat us”. “Arizona State is gonna beat us by a few scores”. “The NIU game might be Toledo 2.0”. “Man Tennessee is gonna get destroy us probably”

What more do yall have to be shown? Mississippi State is a pretty good football team this year, and they lost in overtime to a really good SEC team who will probably make a run at the playoffs. And here’s the thing - we did not play all that great in the loss! It’s not as though we had every break go our way and we played absolutely lights out. We didn’t play great. And we still almost won the game. Guys - if we can stay healthy (and that’s a big if), and we can continue to develop these guys, we’re gonna win some SEC games and go bowling. We’re going to be okay. Just have a tad bit of faith.

To the average college football fan, it's better football to watch. Better sport. Better players. Several impressive plays yesterday.

Haven't been able to say that about what's been on the field for the Dogs in a while

It’s on the road;
aTm seems like a real good team;
We just had a deflating loss.

I mean… have you watched Mississippi State football outside 2010-2022?

“Hopefully pessimistic” is kind of our fanbase’s brand. Hope for the best, but expect the worst.

What does Mississippi State football in the 1970s and 1980s have to do with this years team in 2025? I’d love to hear your sad explanation for this

Well, I didn’t expect you to go full Genespager on me, but here we are. Ok, surely you understand that some semblance of past experience shapes your world outlook, right?

I’m not even talking about the 70’s and 80’s. We’ve lost plenty of games in the last 20-25 years to make me doubt we can win the big games. Maine was in the 2000’s. USA was 2016. Toledo was last year, a season where we were 2-10 and the most hapless I’ve seen us in 20 years.

Sprinkled in there are losses to teams that end up winning the national championship. Sure, we show up to play, but to go in thinking we’re going to beat those teams every time we play them is to ignore reality.

How often do we beat ranked teams and how often are they ranked at the end of the season? 17ing rarely. It’s why so many of us were shocked we didn’t blow it against Arizona State. We’ve seen that same movie so many times, where we’ve come so 17ing close, and blew it.

Have you really gone into every Mississippi State football game in your lifetime believing “aw yeah, we’re gonna win this one!”, seriously?

So, like 2020 vs Bama, 3 weeks after losing to Kentucky 24-2, you were like “I believe we can beat Bama!”

ETA: Look, I love Mississippi State, but I’m also realistic enough to understand that we are the underdog most of the time in this league and, unfortunately, we’re not living in a sports movie where the plucky underdog prevails against the odds. That’s just not real life, man. That’s also what makes the times where we do overcome the odds and do pull off the big upset so 17ing sweet.

Man can we please stop saying “GeNesPaGe!!” Anytime someone says something you disagree with. That is so lame. Come up with something better

I mean no, when we have a bad team and we are 20 point underdogs against a good team I’m not expecting we will win. But if have a decent team and the spread is 7 points, you should not be a poor old loser and think about how we’re going to lose the game. Why would you live your life like that?

And having bad losses like Maine or South Alabama isn’t something that only happens to Mississippi State. Every team at some point has bad seasons and bad losses. Why do you let bad losses define you as a fan? So bizarre we have fans who want to spend their lives feeling sorry for themselves and only expecting the worst for Mississippi State.

I only used “Genespage” because of your excessive sunshine pumping. I don’t use it often, if at all.

In any case, I kind of get what you’re trying to say, but also… the tagline of the Mississippi State fan site you’re posting to right now is literally “Abandon all hope, ye who cheer for the Maroon and White!”

To be a Mississippi State fan is to know suffering and I don’t think there’s anything wrong with admitting that.

I’ll start believing Lebby, Hutzler, and this team can beat ranked SEC teams when they start beating ranked SEC teams (or… really any SEC team). Believe me, I want to believe.
