I miss the times when we played brutal in your face defense...

it did not matter who we played we always played smackdown D. If a receiver caught a pass he was nailed. When a QB dropped back he had someone in his face. There was no finesse to what we did then. We lined up and hit folks. We actually tackled. I miss all that.

Our mishandling of our CBs is the major defensive problem I see.

We've got the best CB tandem in the country, both pretty good tacklers and good man coverage guys, and we sit them 7-10 yards off their man every time. We do the same with slot WRs. We don't disrupt routes so efficient teams like Bama and TAMU are going to pick you apart. That's what happened today. Out routes, screens, anything on the edge. Our CBs are so far down field they can't do a damn thing in the run game or the short pass game because of how far down the field they are.

I'm done with this bend but don't break junk. Teams that can consistently outscheme you and outleverage you won't make the mistakes we are trying to get them to make. Those teams don't have to make low percentage throws that we take advantage of. They can nickel and dime us to death just like Bama and TAMU did. Until we start playing a more downhill brand of defense, we should continue to expect this to happen against good teams.

Me too. 3rd and 57 type defenses. Some of those teams were a QB away from being national contenders. Now we have a QB and, ahh screw it. We are M State.

I don't care how good the cbs are, if the QB can set back in the pocket for 4-5 seconds with noone near him, some receiver is going to get open. Notice how the interceptions have gone down with the lack of pressure on good teams.
