Damn what a list. Almost half those guys never made it to campus or left early for one reason or another.

That is hard to believe. My favorite has to be Chasman Davis, who suffers what is in fact a career ending knee injury in high school that loses all of his offers but ours, we sign him, he never plays. Guess Rusty Linton saw something every other doctor missed and was right about it.

I am thinking 7 of them actually played. I am not counting the Budwiser crew since they had so much character.

but that class had 12 guys at 2 stars or less and was STILL the 39 ranked class in the country.

There were about 21 that actually enrolled, and only about 14 have finished or will finish.

It seems like the knew the injury was at least career-threatening, but Croom wanted to do the honorable thing and award the scholarship. Those are the type things that make me admire Croom the man while despising Crooms the coach.

but he thought that his only chance in life was to go to school on scholarship. From what I know Davis was making use of the free ride while Croom was here but not sure what happened since.

From a football standpoint it's easy to want to hate Croom for that but also sorta impressive.. Now the sad part was that if Davis hadn't gotten hurt I think he had already eliminated us from his top 3....

chasman just finished an entire season as linebacker for some d3 school in cali. had respectable numbers but i am guessing he still walks with a limp
(or "drag leg" for those that actually keep up with recrooting)

but also infuriating. Our football team is/was not his personal community outreach project. That's one scholly we could have used on some other two-star with no SEC offers.

Correction: looks like we didn't pay his way after all. But nice job on making good the second time around, Chasman.

"Struggling to get around, at first in a wheel chair and later crutches,
the former high school preseason All-American became depressed. It
affected his school work to the degree that he ended up not passing
through the NCAA Clearinghouse and lost his scholarship to Mississippi
State."

Did anyone notice that we did not sign one freakin QB in that entire class. Shouldn't we at least sign one a year?
I want to say Croom only had one year that he signed a QB. Maybe two, but that's it.

EDIT:

2004 Mike Henig
2005 Tray Rutland, Ty Evans, Adron Chambers
2006
2007 Josh Riddell, Wes Carroll, Chris Relf
2008

Wow. In 5 years, he signs 2 guys with some semblance of being able to play QB. You guess which 2, LOL

Seriously though, as bad as MSU has been in the past at signing decent QBs, Croom's tenure has to be by far the worst. </p>

Before we read too much into that, consider whether or not that was one of the years that Croom left scholarships on the table.
