I started school at State in 07 with the Walrus coaching so my view is probably skewed, but does where we are not seem crazy? We beat Memphis 59 to 14, we're ranked 16 in the nation, we're 7 point favorites at the defending national champions, every day there's a new article about MSU's potent offense, our offense impresses Chizik, posters on tiger droppings are talking about us playing in the sugar bowl, Palmer saying we're a dark horse to win the West, UGA's fans want to fire Richt and hire Mullen. And to make everything a little stranger we're talking about having a Maroon game with Texas a&m. Where the hell was all this when I was a freshman. I feel like I'm going to wake up soon and I hope to God that day isn't Saturday.

in 1981. We got all the way up to #7 that year before the bottom fell out. It's happened a few other times that I can remember. I'm enjoying this but it is WAY to early to get carried away. Memphis means nothing. The season starts Saturday.

but I've only witnessed expectations like this for MSU football one other time in my life. Unfortunately, the other time was 2001 and we indeed were all forced to wake up from the dream after an abysmal season. Not only that, but we went from bad to the wheels completely falling off the program and well, you know how the rest of that story goes if you had the misfortune of suffering through Croom.

I truly do believe that this season is different because we're resting our expectations on an ***-busting coaching staff and a team full of relentless players as opposed to hoping that a few highly touted HS recruits and JUCO transfers pan out. That doesn't mean that there's no way we'll miss the target this year, but I don't see the team sinking like the Titanic like it did back in '01.

One thing I do know is that you should do your best to sit back and enjoy the ride because while I'd love to think we have decades of great football ahead of us, history dictates otherwise. Enjoy the excitement.

All week long I've been amazed at how far Dan has brought us compared to where we were. 2 years,and 10 months agowe were at absolute rock bottom. To be the 16th ranked team in the country with some "experts" predicting us to play for the NC is crazy. Add onto that 2 straight Egg Bowls and a Gator Bowlvictory.What Dan has done in such a short time is nothing short of a miracle.

1999 was unbelievable, but we still didn't have a lot of offense. I never remember being able to have any confidence in us offensively. We have always leaned so heavily on the D. Then Croom came along and put a fear on us that will take a long time to overcome as a fanbase. After the 3-2 game, I didn't know 50 points was possible in a season much less one game.

Had a few cousins there then that we'd go visit every game week. They came home for holidays only, and maybe not those depending on the games. If it was a day Thanksgiving game, they'd make it in by night just slammed- good times. Say it was their most favorite parts of their lives.<div>

Dan's second year, coming off a 5-7 season, against an experienced Auburn team felt the same as Dan's third year, following a 9-4 season, with a very inexperienced Auburn team?

Come on man, we're going to curb stomp them and you know it.

I was only like 14 but my dad is a state junkie so we went to every home game and the peach bowl. Coming off the SEC WEST championship, starting out 8-0 and getting to 8th in the country, its hard to fathom what games were like at Scott Field during that time (if you weren't actually there). We were almost unbeatable at home those few years and our defense was ridiculous. Joe Lee had the boys playing and Jackie had some made swagger. After the 8-0 start, we did stumble and lose two in a row close games to Alabama and Arkansas (both on the road) but then came back and beat Ole Miss in the infamous 23-20 thriller to wrap up the year. I thought me pops had died and gone to heaven, never seen him talk so much **** to Ole Miss fans in my life. It was great. And to top it all off with a dominant performance in the Peach Bowl to cap off our first ten win season in nearly 60 years. By far the best year I have ever witnessed. Can't wait for Saturday, hope STATE rips Auburn a new one.

Last year wasn't bad though, beating TSUN for the second straight year, Georgia, Florida, and Michigan on New Years day was pretty sick. The Gator Bowl was more fun than I expected, beating the ever living crap outta a storied program like that.

And I believe we'll win this game, but this board was floating on the same high leading into the game as it was last year. The biggest differences now: no Newton, more belief in Mullen and TheGuyBehindTheGuy isn't doing a video this year.
