They should have Bobby Wahl primed and ready for 6 innings or so tomorrow night. He was pretty effective against TCU on Friday night.

They don't believe in that stuff when its an elimination game. Bertman was famous for it. In a Regional/Super Regional sequence back in 2001, he pitched Lane Mestepey, a true freshman at that, 106 pitches in the Friday regional opener start. 97 pitches a regional championship deciding game on Sunday that he started, and then 153 pitches the following Friday night in the Super Regional. And that was the last you ever needed to pay attention to that lefty with so much talent after his arm fell off.

Bianco wasn't shy to do it with Lance Lynn. And I guarantee you Bobby Wahl will be out there for 50+ pitches tomorrow. The ends justify the means with those criminals.

he responded by saying "for sure".

Here is the tweet from Kendall Rogers that was retweeted by the Ole Miss Baseball twitter feed.

#OleMiss coach Mike Bianco said "for sure" on whether or not Bobby Wahl would pitch tomorrow at some point. Mayers available, too." #RebsBSB

I think the real problem is in the NCAA tournament format. We need to do away with regionals and go to a series of 3 best 2-of-3 series to advance to the CWS. This year we would have hosted Samford for a best 2-of-3 this weekend, with the winner playing the FSU-UAB winner next weekend, then the winner of that playing the winner of the Stanford regional the next for a spot in the CWS. If the season can't be extended a week (which is a real possibility) then move the 1st round up to Memorial Day weekend, which is when the regionals used to be held anyway.

Just giving examples of Ole Miss pitchers who threw on short rest. We've done it with Kevin Donovan, albeit in a relief role.

(a) Kevin Donovan only came in for an inning or two.

(b) Kevin Donovan was a senior

and most importantly

(c) Kevin Donovan had ZERO pro potential.

It's thug coaching he learned from his thug mentor. There's a reason the pros don't do it, because it's completely derelict. "Hey, it's the World Series. Let's just go with a 2-man rotation of Halladay and Lee for the World Series."

It's not like Mad Men like Bertman and Bianco would do anything different. They'd just throw their ace on Friday/Sunday. Bertman did it with Mestepey!!!

Both Wahl and Mayers throw mostly fastballs. That's a lot easier on the arm. If they both feel healthy and ready to go, I see no problem with it. If they told Bianco that they were sore or tired, they wouldn't throw

you can play that much more. I'm OK with this format, it's better than the 8-team format. But what I'd really like to see next year is a 14-team single elimination tournament or a 12-team tournament with 4 round robin groups with the 4 winners advancing to the semis. Either format would cap the number of games any team would play at 4. And that's exactly why we're seeing leagues like the ACC, Big 12 and CUSA go to the group play format.</p>

"Mestpey said he felt fine." "Lane wanted the ball, so I gave it to him." It's a blatant cop-out! A 20 year old college ace who feels like he's completely invincible is NOT going to "let down his teammates" and say he can't go. The coach needs to man up and look out for his players. There's a skirting the line, and then there's what Bertman and his ilk do, which goes completely beyond any measure of looking out for the health of a pitcher's arm. It just can't be justified.
