I refuse to believe Chizik will be the head coach at Auburn.

It is simply too good to be true. I'm sure they will find a way to wriggle out of the contract, if it has been signed.

....it feels like more of a practical joke than an actual decision they've made. A program with the resources and tradition of Auburn makes a hiring decision like this? And how is this an upgrade from Tommy Tuberville?

Jesus Breakdancing Christ, this may be the worst hire in college football history if true. I mean, worse than Faust at Notre Dame. Worse than Orgeron at Ole Miss. Unreal.

and MSU makes the best hire of the 3, that's a fairly impressive job by the AD.

this deal is going to fail because the fans reaction. It's a no win for the fans and Gene. Hell I would not want to coach for fan base that hated me. If the deal goes though this is going to be worst than MSU love affair with croom. He will be gone in less than two years.

But if you'd told me a month ago that I could have my choice of Gene Chizek, Lane Kiffen, or Dan Mullen for MSU's next head coach, I'd have chosed Mullen with no hesitation.

What in the hell tells you Mullen might not be considered the best hire in two years? There is no way you can look at the three hires mentioned in this thread, and not come to the conclusion that MSU made the best decision. At worst, we tied with UT...but Mullen's SEC experience and eight years with Urban Meyer definitely give him the advantage.

I've been living in Ames, Iowa for 3 1/2 years now and can tell you this is not the best place to draw recruits. I believe Chizik will do 200% better at Auburn.

On another note: great hire in Dan Mullen. GO DOGS!!!!

There's no way you can be a Mississippi State fan and not at least wonder if we will all be as thrilled in two years. And for the record, I think Kiffin is the best hire of the three.

Thick wool my ***.

Simply saying that at the moment, I believe Byrne made the best hire among UT, AU and MSU. You would trade Mullen for Kiffin or Chezik?

I also said at worst, MSU and UT tied with their coaching hires...but with Mullen's SEC experience I give him the advantage.

You saying my "wool is think" leads me to believe you feel MSU didn't make the best hire of the three SEC schools.

Might give Kiffin a slight edge because he's a little more well known, but I could be talked into believing they are interchangeable.

His head coaching experience in the NFL had to teach him some things, and he was a hot prospect for a lot of jobs if I remember right when Oakland hired him. Plus, if he brings his dad on board, that's an outstanding hire.

Yea, I give a slight edge to Kiffin as well with the NFL head coaching experience, but it's only a slight edge. At the end of the day, it's really a skinniest fat kid argument. No one in the SEC or even in the country has managed to make a hire this off-season that turned heads.

I like the fact that Kiffin was a head coach in the NFL but I also like the fact that Mullen has been in the SEC for a few years.

And the best of it all, we only paid Mullen 1.2 million. I was very happy that Byrne didn't just offer Mullen to keep up with the rest of the SEC and I am kind of shocked that Mullen didn't ask for more.
