I see we locked down another 2* athlete.

He was bumped to a 87 3 star over the weekend on 247. Heard on there he was getting a lot of interest from several BCS schools since his senior film came out.

Watch his tape. This kid is not a 2* by any means. He is another kid from the delta with no exposure and no means to get to camp. Paul Jones said that about a half dozen big named schools including Oklahoma and Auburn have looked really hard at him since his tape came out, and Rosebowl said the kid could move up to 4* when reevals happen. Watch this video, and then apologize in your next post.

edit: Oh hey, 24/7 already did a reeval and kicked him up from 74 to 87. He is likely to keep rising according to Paul.

We seem to do a halfway decent job of finding rough diamonds. ....... And then promptly losing most of them to competitors.

I think he's one of our top commits. I heard about this guy last week and watched his film and was blown away. Physically gifted athlete and looks to have great instincts. No homo, but if you look at his twitter avatar it's him with not much clothes on and he's already Balis made there's no doubt. He'll be an impact freshmens for us next year if he is a quick learner.

wow I haven't seen that film...I'm not sure if he's better on D or on O. Most impressive film I've seen since Ladarius Perkins I'd say.

I admit I'm a "star gazer" and do like to keep tabs with the top recruits. I agree that a recruit having a 2-3* rating does not mean the guy has no talent, and certainly won't keep him from growing 2-3 more inches and adding 5 lbs of muscle. That said, a 4 and especially 5* athlete almost always has enough skills to play high level college ball, so while a low rating doesn't mean they aren't talented, a 4-5 star almost always does. It does not mean they can be motivated.

I can see that it but he is already a 87 3* right now on 247 and rest is just starting to really evaluate him. I wouldn't be surprised if he doesn't end up a 4* or a composite high 3* once that's done.

Well, I know we wasted an offer on the last 2 * player we got from Rosa Fort. I believe he's our starting MLB currently.

And you're a dubmass that wants a coaching change that will guarantee he decommits. I in no way "**** on" the commitment-- I clearly stated having lower stars doesn't mean you aren't going to be good at the next level, but that a 4-5* has a good chance of making it. Ask Bama how those 4-5* recruits are holding them back.

Even though I know what I'm about to say is going to fall on deaf ears, but here goes: I DO NOT MEAN TO PICK ON YOU, SOUTHERN LAW DOG WHEN I SAY WHAT I'M ABOUT TO SAY. This really is just a general observation. You just happened to fit the bill in this instance.

Anyways, I just love when people say, "Have you seen his film?!? He's a sure fire 5 star!!"

Why this makes me laugh is that they are watching a HI LITE FILM. Did they even get to see any negative footage of a kid? I am not saying that I'm a football expert or talent evaluator by any means (don't claim to be one either). But my point is, don't almost all hi-lite films look impressive?

Lastly, I would venture to say that it is a little bit harder to evaluate smaller school talent in MS than anything. However, yall have had a very good record of doing that, so I'm not going to assume this new commit won't be good. Truth is, I have just as much of a clue if he will be good as any of you do (and, I know this could be said for most recruits, but judging an excellent player VS. weak competition has got to be difficult). This kid could be Chris Jones or the next Shaq Perry (just a random small school recruit I saw yall signed a few years back. I've never heard of him, so I'm assuming he doesn't play for yall? I could be wrong, so apologies if I am).

I'm no professional talent evaluator, just someone who has watched a bunch of highlight films over the last few years and I feel confident that I can differentiate between two and four star talent.

My tone was how it was because the OP was doing the usual woe is me/poor ole misstate dance without learning anything about the kid.

Yeah, I didn't take it that way either. Completely understood what you were meaning. That is why I tried to preface my above post. Truth is that you really never know about any recruit until they make it to campus. But, if you see something you like in a kid that makes you want to take a chance and offer him, go for it. For every superstar Pat Patterson, there is always a J. Banks or P-Willie that comes from obscurity.

I'm not sure we are talking about the same guy--I'm talking about Jonathan Pollock, the highly rated class of 2016 LB from Texas who committed to us recently. If you are talking about him, why are you using him to defend diamonds in the rough, when he clearly will be a 4-5 star by graduation? You seem to be making my point, which I repeat, is that you don't know if a 2-3* will be a flop or a Heisman winner, but 4-5* players generally do well.

Im talking about b mckinney. 2 star from the same hs this guy is from. Mckinney is the #1 rated olb prospect for the 2016 draft.

Wtf are you talking about?

Using

Alabama, or any of the top 10 classes, as evidence that "stars" matter is weak. That's all I'm going to say on that.

This guy may renew my faith in Mullen's recruiting.

We are apparently finally recruiting based on need. His highlight film says he plays "OW - Offensive Weapon". We could use one of those.

Lol. I know you were being sarcastic but everything posted so far seems to indicated that there is where they will probably start him out.

Why does 247 always add an extra star when state players commit. Kinda lame. Call a spade a spade

Well I saw the kid play first hand against my ripley tigers. We had them down 27-7 at the half so I saw him in some tough situations. They came back and won 27-33. He's def got talent. With some good coaching he will be a good one

Take that, Southern Miss!!

Great job, Dan. You won a head to head recruiting battle with a team that hasnt won a game in almost two seasons. Bet you were sweating that one out for a while.

Decommits? Where in God's name is he going to go if he doesnt sign with us? He has ONE other offer. What, is Austin Peay going to swoop in and steal him away in January?

Called his game two weeks ago. Kid is legit. Half a step behind McKinney when I called his game his sr year. Only reason I put McKinney a half step ahead is size. We better create a pipeline to rosa fort. They are the 4a south panola of the future. They have 7 guys that are d1 right now. They have a 10th grade d lineman that is ahead of Chris jones when I called his game when he was in 10th grade. Rosa Fort has big raw talent, they've just needed coaching. They have a good group of coaches now and are becoming a force.

Didn't Chris Jones not even start playing football until his junior year?
