I just noticed where Gerald West signed with Southern Miss. He had been committed to Alabama since the summer. The explanation he gave was that Southern was "closer." I had heard he had grade issues, but supposedly UA is loaded in the secondary and that may have factored in his decision as well. Alabama had some assistants that left also so who knows. I don't know if MSU was ever really a factor with West.

Has a ways to go as a corner. He just got crowded out of the mix at Bama. There were too many thoroughbreds angling to get into Saban's stable for him to roll the dice on a grade risk.

What I can't get over is the fact that Croom gave this kid nothing - I mean nothing. As badly as we needed corners and Croom didn't even sniff his way. What a jerkoff.

I'm totally at a loss as well that Sly Croom never even gave a wink at this kid. Gerald went to two different combines and ran the fastest time at both of them. In fact, one of his forties was a 4.31. I know there was questions involving his academics, but I think if the Mullen/Jackie connection would have made it here faster, he would have definitely been in our stable. But hey, I guess doing things the "right way"' means not getting relatives of MSU legends.
