I sort of miss the Ninja's ways of searching for a coach.

I'll admit... the silence was so deafening it was nerve wrecking, but not nearly as much as seeing all of these supposed coaches taking their names out of the ballot. I only recall 4 names that seemed to get circulation as far as coaches that seriously interviewed and that was Chris Peterson, Kevin Wilson, Hudspeth and Mullen. A handful of others that people speculated on like Dooley... but other than that... things were really quiet.<div>
</div><div>In just the past few days, this place has gone into a meltdown as far as coaches who supposedly turned us down and ones we were supposedly looking at. Being on the outside looking in, it's hard to really tell if all of these deals are really happening, but I do not remember things being this bad after Croom got fired.</div><div>
</div><div>Don't take this as a knock on Scott as I'm well aware that most coaching searches are like this by nature... but damn.. this is not even close to being entertaining.</div>

What have we really heard? We've heard rumors of Bryce Drew, and we heard Scott Sutton interviewed. That's essentially it....everything else has been people on the internet throwing out names based on 'sources', etc. We saw the same stuff with the football hire. I think this search has been extremely quiet, and I would imagine if we announce a coach in the next couple of days, that Drew was passed over rather than removing himself.

I just can't believe that after watching Byrne handle the football coaching search, Stricklan couldn't keep a better control on search related information than this.

NCAA Basketball may be different, but generally if a coach's agent gets contacted by a search agency and the first thing he does is go blab about it, that causes problems for his other coaches, as search firms and AD's know they can't be contacted discreetly. If there's a leak, it shouldn't come from anywhere other than the candidate's current school, if the candidate uses the contact to leverage a better offer from its own school.

If there is really this much "inside info" coming from MSU's administration, Scott needs to clean house.

Usually, if I hear about a candidate, I assume that either one or both sides (usually the university) figured out very early on that there was a lack of mutual interest and what you hear is BS, or that both parties thought they were going to reach an agreement that fell apart at the last instance. I have no inside knowledge, but I'm pretty sure that if any significant portion of the information out there was accurate, you'd see a lot more turmoil at the athletic department.
