@dawgstudent, I support you locking the threads. There are plenty of other places to engage in political discussions. I'm good with most OT posts, but none that involve politics. There's a political board on Tigerdroppings that has plenty of folks to engage with for those who enjoy that type of interaction.
I don't mind political posts sometimes as well. But this topic will lead to some things being said by someone that could cross the line of crazy. I know this is far fetched - but I could see it being so bad that the law would be involved. People are emotional about this. I'm absolutely sick about it too. But today isn't the day to have the discussion and that's my decision. I let a lot of **** fly but this topic and this point in time isn't going to be one of them.

As I said - feel free to pm if you want to discuss.

Duh. Of course you do. Political assassination carried out should not be discussed. We should spend the day complaining about what color piping we want on the jerseys that the players wear. Omg...that gray piping is just too much girl

I know my 19- and 21-year kids are really upset and pissed.

Amen. Assassinations like this have happened before. It is naiave to think they can't happen in 2025. It is a bad thing, but stop acting like the sky is falling and your "rights" are being trampled on beacuse you can't discuss it here.

What’s going on today is bad. But our country survived a lot worse in the 1960s. Let’s hope it doesn’t get to that level again.

That's what scares me. Crazy people on both sides and this could be a powder keg moment. Seems like a professional hit and wouldn't be surprised if they don't catch whoever did it which will make it much worse.

So what good does talking about it on six pack do in the whole grand scheme of things? All it’s gonna do is piss everyone off and they’re gonna start fighting and saying things and calling each other names just like every other damn thread that’s been locked today. It’s pointless to try to discuss anything like this on here. You’re free to go and discuss it somewhere else but not here.

It does look like things are heading that way. Not good. At all.

I remember the 60's really well. I can say I watched all the Apollo missions on TV.
I remember going to my grandparents house to watch the 1st moon landing on their fancy color tv. Spoiler: the moon is black & white.

I agree with you on what the outcome would be BUT

No matter what side of an idea you are on if you can discuss it respectfully you should never be quiet. You are correct in that the thread probably starts respectful until is not. With that said advocating silence on any platform is part of why we are where we are.

We will just agree to disagree. It’s too much of a hot button with too many emotions to be discussed on here.

Go look at the first few threads that were locked. There is no “probably.”

It’s not advocating silence. It’s 22 years of experience with message boards. We could give a dollar for every respectful, thoughtful, unbiased post in a thread and inevitably, within 10 post shít will start to fling. This is not a political board, it is football season, we aren’t going to let the posts spiral. If anyone has a problem with that, there is a simple solution.

Not the point I was making
You are saying that DS shouldn’t be advocating not taking about it here. He is advocating that because we know what will happen and because it’s a board primarily for sports.

Do you seriously have nowhere else you can go to talk about politics than an MSU sports message board?

There's an idiot in every crowd but I doubt it. Had he got smashed with a hammer instead? There would be some gloating and terrible jokes for sure.
