I think 2014 is the worst class I can remember..

Top players all have question marks:

Breeland Speaks - 270 lbs DT. Might be caught in between positions at the next level.
Rod Taylor - questionable size. He's cower to 6'0 than 6'1. Not a huge deal for an OG I guess.
CJ Hampton - questionable athleticism. Struggled in the MS/AL AS Game. Where's the production this year too? 1INT, 1 PD in 2013.
Pack - good prospect. Maybe the closest 'sure thing' in the class.
Graham - good prospect.
Voohries - good prospect.
Aries William - simple: is he fast enough?
Gerri green - how can he handle the knee injury?

IMO Sammie Epps, Brandon Bryant, and Lashon Durr have as much, if not more, potential than the guys that have been labelled 'can't miss'/Dandy Dozen guys.

There are somewhere between 3 and 5 players in the 2015 class that might be the #1 player in 2014.

I think Green is one of the best prospects in the country. And I'm crossing my fingers we can land epps

I put most of my stock in how recruits perform in summer camps and in practice. When I see blue-chippers that can't outperform 2-3* guys in camp drills, I stop stargazing so much. That is something that cannot be stated enough.

I hear what you're saying, but those 2 star guys over perform when they get to campus. I put a lot more weight on the fact that our staff has picked up 2 stars who have beaten out our own blue chippers for PT by the way they perform in games (I mean that in a good way, as in those 2 stars being All-SEC type guys).

If Chris Jones had gone to Ole Miss's camp first and then ours he would have signed as a 2 star with us and had the same season he just finished. Think about that for a second.

Recruiting rankings don't apply to us because no one gives a **** about Mississippi football.

That being said, this class sucks. Green is going to be a hoss though...

It's not one of the worst. It is the worst. The players are all just "so-so". They all have questionable talent, reputations and if I'm not mistaken, all from broken homes.

I can find at least two recruiting sites and message boards that will confirm this.

The best part is, if I'm wrong, the only way to prove it will be to pull this post up after the little so-so talented illreputes get a chance to play.

Man I love this ****

Williams doesn't have to be "fast." He's coming to grind.

But I ask you to think back to the last 5 years - minus CJ - who has been that high 4 to 5 star recruit that has lived up to the billing? Moncrief and F.Cox?

Bump, and based on his hype you can even say he didn't meet expectations. There were 3 stars right there with him his whole career.

I get your point. This class still isn't very good, and that's coming from a guy who doesn't care about rankings.

I'm still having a hard time understanding exactly what our staff's strategy has been for this class. Having a roster full of young talent along with very limited spots to fill would seem to point towards a shoot for the stars type of recruiting season, but it's like we're doing the exact opposite. Just lazily coasting through this year's class while the real focus seems to be on '15. I really don't get why we didn't go all in this season from the beginning. If we land a few, great. If we don't, there will always be guys to steal from LA Tech when they're needed.

Damn George Campbell is a beast

6' 3.5" and runs a 4.36? I bet Brewster puts on a full court press for him.

That's not my point. The point is that the top recruits of Mullen's classes haven't been very good.

ETA: and in Mississippi in general.

McPhee was pretty good. Matt Wells was a 4 star/high 3 type. Same with Gabe Jackson.

I see you're point though.

Try to remember 2008.

Our best player from MS was Charles Mitchell. Tobias Smith missed half his career with injuries. Swedenburg has been a solid punter. Arceto Clark was a starter but never really a standout. Devin Jones was mostly special teams and backup DT.

Ole Miss signed one guy from Mississipp that actually contributed - Derrick Herman.

Most of the top rated players went elsewhere. DeAndre Brown signed with USM and then basically ended his career when he broke his leg. Barksdale was still playing this year as a backup safety for ULL, which is about his 3rd or 4th team. Alonzo Lawrence bounced around & eventually played at MGCCC. Andre Wadley never played. Marlon Walls (d-lineman) has been a backup at TN but I think he actually started this year.

Some of the best players from that class weren't highly rated. Vick Ballard and James Brown (OL at Troy & highschool teammate with Gabe Jackson, signed with Chicago) went juco - both made it to the NFL. Austin Davis signed to play baseball with USM then went on to break almost every passing record at USM. Kendrick Presley was a solid safety for USM, and Delta State signed a very good CB - Dominique Davenport.
