I think Brassell learned something today

First I don't think it was a "rush decision" - he's played it close to the vest on recruiting so I think he knows what he's doing.

I think was he did underestimate was the reaction andthe amount of pressue on him until Feb. Given that you just don't come from SP and go to MSU, Iwas surprised he announced in the first place. Now that it's out the pressure from the OM folks as well as Bama and a few others will be overbearing.

Much better for him to come out and make it a soft commitment and let it die down. I won't be surprised if there is some drama here leading up to February, but I really think he underestimated the reaction - maybe he thought it would just die down and people would leave him alone.

That or he's really smart and wants to go with OM and just wanted to help Market get offers to both places as well.

All I know is that Feb is a LOOOONG way away but just having Brassell on our commit list should help with some other folks.

for school today. Guess, he wanted to avoid what inevitably he has been unable to avoid it appears. I don't like Pogues tone, it sounds like he is way too involved in the process and is pissed that he appeared to be out of control. This one is going to be very interesting.

that was going to commit to Vandy. So, they had his "final decision" day thing at the school gym, and the whole school was there. He said it right before he announced he said "Ole Miss" because everyone there was looking at him like they were going to kill him. He then officially committed to Vandy.

So, yeah there's a lot of pressure there.

But, we've also gotten some people like Derek Pegues from there, so it's not an impossible thing.

I normally wouldn't post this stuff, but suffice it to say, Brassell would have no reason to tell Pogue whether or not he committed. Pogue isn't exactly a "players' coach," if you catch my drift. That's as far as I'm willing to go on that subject. But just know that Pogue's comments are all part of the plan for Mississippi Black Bear damage control.

Todd, Chris was in the '00 class. He was only a year ahead of me in HS. It came down to us, Mississippi, and Vandy. His brother, Paul Morgan, played at Vandy and he went there to play college ball with his brother. The pressure was definitely applied for him to go to Mississippi. Rumor was that what he really wanted was to come to State, but knew he could never commit there. Since Paul was at Vandy, it was at least semi-acceptable to the Batesville Gang.

I can't overstate the kind of pressure put on these kids at SP to go to Mississippi. It's pathologically sick. Bucking the system is not tolerated. It takes a hell of a strong kid to go elsewhere, especially to State. Just know that Brassell and Market are committed.

IF he stays firm in his commitment, he "might" have trouble qualifying.

Exactly right (about the Brassel, Market, and OM stuff; don't want hgsmith setting up a conference call with me too). You're far too kind to Pogue though.

Don't want to publicly burn my bridges or contacts. But yes, Pogue sucks.

And I admit I got my wires crossed on Paul and Antuan. It happens, deal with it. I clearly stated it was rumor CY wanted to come to State. I don't blame him for going to Vandy to play with Antuan. Not many get that opportunity. And he got a degree from Vandy. He won all the way around.

waited until less than 24 hours before signing day to make his intentions known. While I thought this would get nasty I didn't realize how quickly it would get nasty for a top player from SP to commit to us this early in recruiting.

As much as I thought I hated all the utter useless, teenage girl cattiness ******** that comes with following recruiting in the off season, I REALLY hate hearing about it during the first decent regular season we've had in forever.
