I think Mingione sent Pirtle because..

he thought the ball was going to get lose on the infield. Pirtle was slowing down at 3rd, and then suddenly took off without ever picking up the ball.

He didn't give a stop sign or wind his arm. He musta been yelling at him...

cause he definitely didn't give Pirtle anything concrete to see whether to stay or go

I think he was probably telling him to read the ball through and he just hauled *** anyway. No need to tell him to hold up on that. I'm sure Mingione thought it was fairly obvious. He also could have verbally told him to hold up.

Oh, I agree. Pirtle screwed up, no doubt, but from the replay...

you didn't see anything definitive from Mangione

It's Pirtle's reaction that makes me think Mingione was saying something, because he takes off w/o ever finding the ball. When the RF let the ball go, I thought it was headed into our dug out. Pirtle wouldn't have known that unless Mingione said something to him.

My immediate reaction to the hit was to start watching the third base box. Mingione was waving him and then suddenly stopped. He was pointing at the plate for some unknown reason when he stopped. Never gave him the stop sign. Just really poor work.

Yea I agree

I think Mangina was holding him until he saw the weak throw come in and he yelled for Pirtle to go. Then chewed Pirtle out so he wouldn't look bad. Pirtle slowed up right when he got to the bag and his eyes were on Mangina, not the ball, and all of a sudden he takes off.

There may be blame to share but I put more on Mingione, I didn't see any hand signals from him at all either way on the replay. Pirtles' back is to the rightfielder, he's got to be getting some input from Mingione before he hits the 3rd base bag and you can't rely on verbals.

Absolutely correct. Blame goes to Mingione-he's the 3rd base coach. The runner has his back to to the play and Mingione needs to put up his hands and tell him to stop. Mingione didn't do that. Cohen should have jumped on him instead of Pirtle.
