I thought Jans played defense?

This team is really not good. Like, they’ll need to improve as the season goes on to make the NIT

Taking KSt at +2.5 was easy money, and I’m an idiot for not pulling the trigger

Jans has some explaining to do for the state of this team. It’s the portal era, I get it, but everyone’s dealing with that. Memphis has a brand new roster too with zero superstars, and they fought #1 Purdue down to the wire last night.

Portal was a total whiff this year. Brought back Hubbard and Jones from last year, lost Murphy, who we had to have. Brought in a bunch of underperformers and some decent freshmen. The freshmen and Warren need to play a lot this year and get ready for next year. Hopefully we can actually land a decent player or two in the portal next cycle.

We've gotten the shlt kicked out of us twice now by just decent teams. Never had a chance because we can't stop them.
I'll say it again but Jan's is the most overrated and overpaid coach on this campus. He's basically been given everything he could want money wise and he still can't win a tournament game. He overachieved his first year and then squandered 2 pretty good teams the next years.

Why doesn’t Jan’s recruit any white players for his team? Every other school in the SEC has more white players than we do. Maybe not a whole lot more but we rank last in number of white players on the team. I understand that overall the SEC average is 10-15% but we rank least. The national D1 average is 25-30%. Hell, there’s at least one HBCU school, Lincoln University, that has double the amount than we do. Jan’s has one token white kid on the team that he just randomly screams at all the time like he hates him. Probably hates him because he knows he’s only on the team so we’d be sitting at 6% instead of 0%. White players can play defense too.

The way he refuses to guard the 3 pointer, I'm starting to agree. At first I was just happy that we looked like we played hard after Howland. But as time passes I'm like, something is up with our scheme. Because while we've won more than we've lost, when we do lose, it's UGLY.

That said I don't want to Stansbury this deal, where we don't realize what we had til it's gone.

Exactly. Name a player that Jan's has actually developed? Every transfer that comes in gets worse than they were at the school before
My defense for this earlier, at least for offense, was that we played a level of defense that most players weren't used to and it would take a while for them to develop the conditioning to play that hard without it affecting their shooting. Then last year we stopped playing defense quite as hard. And this year...

Pretty weird take. But also Jans has been all up in the Euro’s **** for the past 2 games and I don’t get why. The kid is starting to shoot it a bit and has been an excellent rebounder. Jabari Magee played nearly 25 minutes yesterday and contributed nothing. King Grace is very raw and his shooting motion is terrible. Sean Jones had a pitiful game and yet Euro sat on the bench for a good portion of the game. It’s mind boggling.

Yeah, I’m not ready to leap off the Jans wagon quite yet, but it is kinda funny considering that Stans got raked over the coals for not making a sweet 16, and yet here we are in year 14 since his departure without even a tournament win yet.

The most reverse racist coaches I ever experienced were white.

*Note I am in no way calling Jan’s a racist or reverse racist, rather I am simply stating a random personal fact.

I guess I’ll take that as a compliment. Just like in football, I think we should think outside the box in all things basketball as well. Baseball so much, we are the big spenders there.

I don't even know what outside the box thinking is in basketball? Nate Oats offense? 3s and layups? 40 Minutes of Hell?

Did not have a pro DEI basketball post on my bingo card for 2025. Note: it's ok to think things without putting them out in public.

Why can’t we put the Stans stuff to rest? 1998-2006 Stans was great. Tough tournament draws and losses but an incredibly fun stretch of ball. 2006-12 stans tanked the program. After the 2009 sec tournament, completely underachieving for 3 straight years with mounting program cancers being kept on. There were great moments but his lows sunk us for a decade

Biggest issue to me is the lack of team chemistry. And we have no glue guy, like Cam.
I wanted S Jones to be that guy, but he hasn't figured it out yet.
Defense is the worst I have seen from an MSU team since Rick Ray years.
I just watched some highlights, but why did Quincy only play 2 minutes?

Maybe the stat sheet is wrong, but if true...was he injured?

The worst mistake we ever made with our BB program was to can Stans.
He was one and done in the NIT with Bost, Hood, Moultrie, and a former Parade and McD’s All America. The year before, two of our players were fighting over stadium nachos while wearing A shirts while watching a pre-conference tournament game.

To me, hard to argue that firing him when we did was a mistake. I could see after 2011, or waiting another year until after 2013. 2012 was just bad.

I think we ALL can agree though, it probably would have been best for him to take the Clemson job after 2010. Win win for everyone.

Yes Clemson always was best case scenario. I think if he came back in 2013 the candidate pool way have been worse than what we had in 2012 even.

What Nate Oats’ does is not niche or out side the box at all anymore in 2025. What started as somewhat unusual in 2019–2020, major Power 5 teams running full on 5 out, 75 possessions, and 40+ three point attempts per game offense, has become one of the most copied and mainstream systems in college basketball. They just buy great players.

Our athletic department fired Stans then rolled out the maroon carpet for him when he came back as a staff member at Texas A&M. Thats as poor ole state as it gets.

Seems like you've thought about this for a while and giving local stats along with regional stats.
Is this part of the initiation for induction?

I didn’t understand the timing of it. The cancers were leaving and Stan’s had Hood returning with some high ranked freshman’s coming in. We just blew it all up because RuNThEGdBaWl knowers were just too smart and loud for our own good.
