Agreed. he bounces off more would be tacklers with his balance and spinning. Strong in the legs. If you add up consistent 3 or so yards after contact then it makes a difference of several first downs a game. Same could be said for Shump, and griffin is such a pain to tackle over and over. That takes a toll in the 4th quarter where 4 yards turns into 8 real quick with missed tackles due to some fatigue. Hell, I would pound them early until you prove you can stop it.

I just think mullen has a problem with his loyalty to a fault to upperclassmen. If ROJO drops a few balls in his hands the give someone else a chance to make plays.

Perk has great ball security, and that counts for a lot. Until one of these young bucks starts to put it on the ground a lot then I will not understand it.

I can't see how CJ is anything but a defensive tackle. Everything about this kid screams out Fletcher Cox 2, but if anything, a little ahead of schedule.

Maybe his height. But if we want to maximize his skill-set we'd move him to DE. When he's playing DE in the 3-man front, he creates havoc. Not to mention that we have a huge need at DE for next year.

Here is the thing about Perkins, which none of you have mentioned.

ITs the difference between he and Robinson...AND Shump.

Perkins has no vision. If there is a hole directly in front of him, he will get his yards and look impressive doing so. He also does fairly well in the option pitch game, again because he doesnt have to make a decision on which way to go. If there is no obvious hole, he will not gain yardage...just straight into the scrum. He is an outstanding pass catcher out of the backfield. He should have always been a 3rd down or long down and distance back. He is not a base running back.

Our insistence on using Perk as the primary the last 2 years has as much to do with our offensive ineffectiveness, if not more, than anything else. We haven't had a base running game in 2 years, since Vick left. We saw a glimpse of it Saturday. Had we gone Robinson and Griffin at RB last year, we would have fared better. Especially with a pocket QB.

Robinson and Shumpert have outstanding one-cut ability and vision to find the lane. The make yardage out of nothing...or chicken salad out of chicken { }

Again, Perkins is a good football player, we are just using him wrong. We seem to have a hard time deciding who our best players are and using them. Find out who your 17ing horses are and ride them. Instead we rotate players randomly all game hoping someone will make a play. Robinson and Shumpert need to get the ball 70/30 on 1st and 2nd downs, and Perk needs to be the 3rd down and 5+ yards back.

DeRunnya needs to be playing 70/30 with Morrow. Jameon all game, spelled by Ross occasionally, and Ross in on 4 WR sets. Rojo and Fred Brown on a 80/20 split. Hopefully RoJo and Malcolm stop dropping the ball, because they are 2 of our better athletes. And I could go on and on about the route running from our WR...but I will save that for another day.

No doubt.

Constantly using Perk on first and second down blows my mind. Get the yard after contact guys in there to help wear down the defensive interior to open up e passing game for whoever the signal caller is.

You nailed it. I completely agree with this.

Again, Perkins is a good football player

I disagree. Not in the SEC. In the SEC, he is the worst starting running back. In the SEC he isn't a top 3 running back on the team. It blows my mind watching him run the ball. It's sad really. He is also not as good as he used to be. There's no explosiveness. There's not really any quickness anymore. And there sure as hell isn't as much speed. I feel for the guy, but we don't owe him a damn thing if he doesn't deserve to be on the field, and he doesn't deserve to be on the field if it is in order to run the football.

He would be a good 3rd down back in the SEC. He's getting looks for that role by the NFL. Nobody's saying he's a good starting RB in the SEC.
