that we would wake up this morning and hear some wonderful news. Something to the effect of "MSU Athletic Director Greg Byrne has fired Woody McCorvey" or "MSU Athletic Director Greg Byrne has cleaned the house"....

It was a far cry from hell, but this shows that Croom is not going to change a damn thing. He will continue on this downward spiral until it is the end of him. I recall him saying a few years back "I will never fire a coach" What a 17ing idiot.

Help us Greg Byrne, you are our only hope.

No coach will work for an AD that publicly fires and hires coordinators.</p>

I totally disagree. I don't give a 17 if it is announced on the 5:30 National News. The second it is done...the ENTIRE coaching community will say "It's about time they got rid of that 17ing moron, especially after 5 years of no progress"

You continue to accept mediocrity while the rest of us continue to be realistic....*******

an assistant unless it's for personnel reasons. They can force the hand of the HC but Byrne would never come out and say I am trumping our head coach and firing our OC against his wishes. That would be stupid.

Why? If I'm Greg I tell Sly.....Woody has to go!! You can tell the press it's for medical reasons, family issues, whatever...but he has to go...NOW!!!

At the end of the year Woody can "decide" to pursue other offers...that way you didn't fire him.

Even if Woody does leave, he has to change the offense regardless. Woody leaving does nothing. I would be happy with Croom just stating he is going to change the offense completely and he is not firing anyone. The problem is not Woody.

to dumbasses like yourself but I'll give it a shot. Byrne will never publicly fire an assistant. If he does, he's lost his mind. Now, well he tell Croom changes must be made? Sure. That's the way it's done. You're a effing idiot if you think otherwise.

The root of the problem is Croom, but I don't care how good our offensive schemes and play-calling are, Woody McCorvey is not qualified to coach quarterbacks at this level. He's just not. We will never, ever, ever have good QB play as long as he's coaching them. I seriously doubt he would ever be an average offensive coordinator under any coach even if he hired someone else to coach quarterbacks as a position coach, either.

I agree that you can't say definitively that McCorvey isn't qualified to be an offensive coordinator, because of the analogy you love so much. But I can say that he's not qualified to coach quarterbacks, because he's never coached them at any level before coming to MSU, and as we've all found out he didn't even play QB at the SWAC school in Alabama he went to like he claimed. He was the punter. At this level of football, not hiring a QB coach with some prior experience isn't even an option.

RBs? If he's to stay, then that's what he needs to be doing here. At this point, I'd take my chances with Rockey coaching the QBs and calling the plays. Then, at the end of the season, Croom should hire an OC that runs a college style offense, not necessarily a spread, and stay out of the way.

If all this were to happen, we'd have a chance to be a good program under Croom.

I agree here... There is no doubt that the "character" Croom brings to the table is suffice for a college football program. The parents of the recruits love him and he seems to genuinely care for his players. With that said, all he needs is a GOOD OC and to stay the 17 out of his way. Then, I think we can be a successful team.

Said it once and ill say it again...Hats off to Cheeze...

1. Harbison actually DOES have prior experience and success coaching his position in the past.

2. Comparing coaching quarterbacks to coaching any other position on the field is comparing apples to oranges. It's not uncommon at all for coaches to change from one position to another during their career. Except for quarterbacks. QB coaches are career QB coaches. And even if you are going to move a career RB coach to QB coach, you wouldn't want to do it in the toughest BCS conference in the country.

Charlie Weis was a quarterbacks coach with no prior experience of being one in the NFL mind you. And if I had to guess, his college career was non-existent. Just to throw out that McCorvey would suck as QB coach because of his past experience is not a solid reason.

But you won't find many of them. But getting back to McCorvey and your analogy you love so much. He hasn't even made halfway decent **** salad with the **** and mayonnaise he's been given. Not to mention that it's part of his damn job to go out and get the chicken for the chicken salad to begin with.</p>

that to be a QB coach, you might have wanted to coach QB's before. But there is no reason to assume McCorvey could not be a good OC.

I tried to state for a fact that McCorvey isn't qualified to coach QBs, but that it was just my opinion that he could never be a decent offensive coordinator even with someone else coaching QBs. I haven't seen anything from him at MSU to make me think he ever could be a decent OC, but you are correct that Croom has hamstrung him by forcing him to run the offense we're running. So I can't say for sure that he'd never be a decent OC. Of course, in his only other stint as an OC, he got fired after one season, along with the head coach and the rest of the staff.</p>
