That’s an excellent point about not doing it yearly. I just hate I missed it.I was there and as an upper 40’s baseball first guy it was like watching the superbowl to me…….but….I don’t know if you can replicate that experience if you do it every year.
had an absolute blast last night though. Thanks admin
That’s absolutely awesome. I bet that was great! Congrats!I watched from the dugout last night on Will's team. I got there early about 12 and met Coach O'Connor and introduced myself. He let me watch practice in the dugout. Chatted with some of the players and new coaches. All very impressive. Had a good talk with Noah Sullivan.
I then visited to both the Thunder and Lightning dressing rooms and Will and Rafael were very gracious. Met a bunch of the guys who played for the first time. Jake Mangnum, Travis Chapman, Papelbon, Frazier, Moreland, Dakota Jordan and my old friends Bobby Thigpen, Trent Intorcia, Jeff Brantley, Scott Clark.
Will told me to hangout in the dugout for the game. It was a fun night.
Would’ve loved to see Rea out there. He was awesome and defied the odds too, anyone wanna tell me the major standouts as far as the game went? I’m gonna to find time to go back and watch it but I’m going to bed shortly. I’m up tonight due to health issues again. Anyways will I be able to watch it on ESPN Unlimited say later today or tmrw? Anyone know if they’ll keep it up where it can still be watched? Or how long do they keep these things u wonder?I know Jeffrey Rea didn’t pursue it, but I’m sure he would at some point.
The biggest issue would be getting pitchers and catchers who have held up enough to play a legitimate game.
I don't miss any baseball games, if the gates open I'm there. But I wouldn't go to an alumni game every year, no way. Even every other year would be too much for me, especially for the players that have to travel even.I hope that you're no where near anyone that makes decisions.
Yeah it might not make as much but still brings in money and interest. Both things we are in need of. If it fails then sure back off the frequency but until then, why I the world not. Typical case of what do you have to lose.
That’s not a bad idea.Maybe a solution is do an alumni game every year, but rotate sports. Next year flag football, the following year basketball, then back to baseball. Idk, just a thought.
$2.9 millionYep can’t do it annually.
If you can’t see that we’re a baseball school and should be dropping SIGNIFICANT resources into it……I can’t help you.
Exactly. Can’t get that name cache yearly.
And I gotta say……. Top notch job admin!!! Couldn’t have done a better job
Unlike many experts, I am not expert enough to watch a couple of hours practice and make any of those determinations. I was impressed with the pace of practice. The "kids" all make me look small. I didn't watch any pitchers actually throw. Chatting with others who have been here awhile, they are impressed with the coaching staff. So there is definitely a good feeling for the upcoming season. I am happy the new staff embraces the foundation of Bulldog Baseball. So Bruce, any feelings about this coming year's team after hobnobbing with all the other players and new coaching staff, etc? Do you think we make a Regional and possibly a Super? I think we definitely make a Regional, but not sure about anything beyond that. I would like to know more in depth on what our pitching will be like. More experience or maybe not enough yet to make a big dent?
I wish they would have brought you out to wave at the crowd. You are surely top 10 Diamond Dog ever. That was an awesome thing to watch last night. I’m sure that was an amazing experience for you. Glad you had a great time.
Appreciate that. Will asked if I wanted to step out there with them. I told him it was his call. It was probably too late to get me into the script.I wish they would have brought you out to wave at the crowd. You are surely top 10 Diamond Dog ever.
I like this. Maybe the grounds crew will let you have it on an away game weekend on Friday night. You telling me Fitzgerald and Boobie wouldn't eat this up?Maybe a solution is do an alumni game every year, but rotate sports. Next year flag football, the following year basketball, then back to baseball. Idk, just a thought.
The ones that "tune in" aren't contributing jack unless they bid on an auction item. The ones that attend are paying for chairbacks, Left Field Lounges, and Standing Room Only tickets. Then there are parking passes, concessions, souvenirs, $12 beers, auctions and raffles, the golf tournament fees, etc etc etc. You do it every year your contributors, spectators, and players are going to dwindle every seasonThey should play it every year, but the fans who think that's not special enough, should only tune in once a decade so that it stays "special" for them.
We really have the dumbest people in our fanbase. I really hope yall have no say in the AD. I can see why we struggle with money though because likely yall do.
1 yes it is all about money
2 okay say you can't get the pitchers then do it every other year or third but be creative with the other years and have a home run derby the other years. There needs to be something. To those that say you wouldn't go every year, who cares. Others will and again is about bringing in money.
3 if pitching is the issue, see if there is a work around letting our current roster pitch (of course there would be significant restrictions to the if we took this route/ use lower on the depth chart), like Alabama did in football. Could you imagine the recruiting tool that would be.
Just saying no... is dumb. We have to be creative to bridge the gap. Thank you Charlie for help making this happen and finding ways such as this and other fun ways you're working on to get the fans engaged. I know there was a golf tournament done in the past. We need more of these revenue generators. It brings excitement and money to the school, nil and Starkville.
Who use to do alumni games every other yearOne thing that has not been said is I will bet the proudest man in the stadium that night was Ron Polk. He looked like he was really enjoying it.
Are they spending any more money going to that alumni game than they are spending going to 30-40 regular season baseball games per year? Or 7 football games per year? The ones that "tune in" aren't contributing jack unless they bid on an auction item. The ones that attend are paying for chairbacks, Left Field Lounges, and Standing Room Only tickets. Then there are parking passes, concessions, souvenirs, $12 beers, auctions and raffles, the golf tournament fees, etc etc etc. You do it every year your contributors, spectators, and players are going to dwindle every season
Are you trying to prove the point to do it every year? Yes all that brings revenue for NIL. So what if it isn't as big. It's money we didn't have and a recruiting tool. Change it up. Do the game every other year like Polk but do home run derby the off years. Why in the world would we not? Let's do whatever to raise money. If we get to a point it's not worth it then space it out more but to just say no is moronic and it's what gets you last in the SEC in NIL.The ones that "tune in" aren't contributing jack unless they bid on an auction item.
They did a golf tournament on Thursday at Mossy Oak................
Yes because the ones who have the tickets sell them and make $$ . That still be the case until they increase seating capacity/ ask actual value of the seats. Are they spending any more money going to that alumni game than they are spending going to 30-40 regular season baseball games per year? Or 7 football games per year?
