This is going to be a bloodbath.

Ic ball at the Althoff 49.

Second D play I’ve seen (others lost in the Internet was smothering.) Third is a stuff - then Althoff personal foul. Ic ball at the 26.

Wide open pass for Td.

20-0 ic. 3:39 in 1Q.

Bad stream from NFHS - 30 seconds and pause for the same ... it’s 7:54 and it’s still steamed less than nine minutes of game time.

Video picks up and a little scrum - Achs actually not penalized. IC WAS!

Old Coach Schott and current principal Dave Harris calling the game. Dave was/is a wrestler. He student taught my senior year - was on the sidelines with my class. He will groan about the boys.

Down 27-0 at half.

Dave Harris is a Cubs fan.

His frequent “Oh No” groans rival Ron Santo.

Ic scores again. 34-0 at 9:26 in 2q.

Hope IC stays healthy. Looking forward to IC vs Rochester, although it will be a couple years too late.

Very easily could have hung a hundred - a combo of a very good team playing a team ThAts in over its head.

Next week will be even tougher for the Crusaders

That 2016 IC team was good, very good. Best ever in 3A . Not IMO. The best 3A team I've seen in the past 30 years was 2004 - 2005 Driscoll. The 2nd best ws 2004 -2005 Wilmington. The playoff game was epic.

Both great teams but neither was in ICs league in 2016. Other than st Laurence they weren’t even tested.

1990 Althoff - 3a in six class system.

More talent than any other 3a school before or since.

Most talent is different than best team. 1990 Althoff won the title game 21-13 clearly a tough match-up. IC could have won the title game 60-0 if they wanted too. They were so much better than everybody else there is no conversation that can be sensible.

Let me add 721 points to 94 and 49 of those came to St Laurence.

A 5 game playoff run of 253-28 against the supposed best of 3A. Lock the thread.

There was a combination of other factors back then ... but got the W nevertheless, but it was not the coronation we assumed would take place.

Depends on what you are using to evaluaate that IC team. If you saw their regular season games and playoffs and you feel that they were not the best, then you opinion is sound, at least to you, and no argument here. If however, you are basing it on what you saw in the final game, you could be way off. Reason being that their QB, Luke Rico, WAS the offense that season, and was playing on a torn MCL from the previouse game. What you saw in the state final was a dummied down O that included a few pocket passes and a bunch of handoffs to 35. That qb accounted for something like 2,500 yds during the season and was a non-factor in the last game. With him, the would have easily had 50 by half.

hmmm! is 253-28 correct? didn't follow IC that much. So, lets say that if IC played their 1st team thruought the playoffs as much as these other super 3A teams did, then would it be like 400-38? Yikes!

That’s nice - 6a STL ... I remember playing mostly 6a games up until the playoffs. That’s when there were six classes.

In order, if I remember right:
Alton
Belleville East
Poplar Bluff,Mo
Belleville West
Padukah, KY Tilghman
Lurtheran North (3a champs in Mo)
Edwardsville
Provi
OPEN - could not get anyone in the country to fill the date.

I like looking at the IC curve...2014 they miss the playoffs.

2015 they go 11-2, both losses to 3A champ McNamara, who had a stud MAC level running back (Western Michigan) and several other DI talents on the roster.

2016 they slaughter everyone. I only watched them play in person when they knocked out Wilmington, who scored 14 of the 28 points that IC gave up in the playoffs, and on tv for the title. Playing at home the first three games was a huge advantage, and their team speed was lethal. Rowell was not only a MAC level running back, but a 4 time all-stater with ten medals in track...Ricobene and the receivers joined him on the 4 x 100 relay team that was 4th...3A teams generally either have a primary run or pass bent...IC's ability to go 50/50 is almost impossilble to deal with at the 3A level...just not enough athletes. You can't put an extra guy in the box to deal with Rowell, nor can you drop the safety extra deep for the pass game...And you are on turf, so you have to play a step deeper to deal with their speed...On grass, muddy grass, even game. On turf, done...

Probably the best 3A team since going to 8 classes...the 16 IC team against the 14 Wilmo team would have been interesting, since Wilmo had 4 all-staters on the roster so they might have sufficient speed to catch up...and better balance on offense...Weaver was the no. 4 wing on that team...

And as a true sadist, I realize that in any other sport IC would have been bumped up last year because in any other sport the semis would have given them a trophy in 2015 for 3rd or 4th, and the title in 16 would have success factored them for 17...hmmm...

Hickey was the second best athlete on that team, but yes.
This guy? 1990 Tribune all state first team
RB-Hickey Thompson, 5-11, 182, sr., Belleville Althoff: Set state`s single-season rushing record. Entering Friday`s final, had gained 2,848 yards on 268 carries (a 10.6 average) and scored 39 TDs.

Yeah - ended with 3100 and change.

Darond, our QB, played rb jurior year after Hickey broke his leg. Was all state. Could ya e played d1 football, basketball or baseball - went pro baseball, drafted in 5th round.

Two linemen went to Nebraska, another to ND and one to Mizzou. The other tackle did not have the grades for D1, but he had the body.

Those were just the D1a guys.

2016 IC was better team than your Althoff team. I don’t care how many beers you guzzled or how much strange you got into.
