We would have gotten Ellis Johnson back on staff as DC. Was there ever any talk or rumor of this?

Not at all. A) He left Starkville because his 25 year old wife hated it. B) Auburn paid. C) Auburn gave him complete control over his staff.

I know it's cool to think Ellis is awesome because he coached a good defense here at State but Jesus man, there are better coaches. He wouldn't be worth firing our staff. I don't believe we could ask for a better LB coach.

Didn't keep up with gossip about his wife. All I know is he's a better defensive mind than anybody on our staff. And it doesn't take a messageboard of college kids with swoopy long bangs to figure it out

Would like to see a year of Collins' defense before making that declaration, Chris Wilson was calling the shots last year make no mistake. May turn out that Collins isn't a big improvement but he made tremendous strides with his FIU defense the first year he came in and took over there so I'm really looking forward to seeing what he does with ours. And if you want an aggressive, attacking style defense then Ellis Johnson is NOT your man.

I agree. Plus, you never know how former head coaches come back after failing at the head jobs. Some work out, some continue to go downward.
